Rejection Letters
A few weeks ago I applied for a really super job working with the journalist Will Hutton at The Work Foundation where he is also CEO. This morning I got a letter saying thanks for your application but unfortuately bla bla (you know the rest).
However, perhaps I'm over sensitive but the rest of the letter nearly sent me in the direction of the nearest gas oven - get this:
"WE were particularly looking for a combination of proven advanced web skills, and excellent written and verbal communications skills. We felt that you were at a disadvantage in these areas compared to other applicants"
The temptation to show The Work Foundation (the company concerned) how varied and articulate my verbal skills are - when they've never even spoken to me - is overwhelming. These are people who run courses in getting the most out of your staff and increasing confidence at work, among others.
I am now taking my eight years of experience as a copywriter and journalist to McDonalds who I'm sure will at least appreciate my skills at taking orders for Big Macs.
Rant over, thank you for listening.
