Scream Test for Maria & Venus.

Was anyone annoyed at the level of screaming each player emitted every time they thrashed bloody blue murder out of the ball? I noticed that at times they stopped doing it and it never lowered the intensity. But when one started doing it again, the other followed suit. Maria (yes we're on first name terms) has said that when she watches a replay of herself she hates to hear it. But by crikey what a match, I have never seen two women go at it for the whole length of a match. But then I've lived a sheltered life.

I have been too excited for Venus! She has made such a nice strong comeback. She was always my favorite

Great game - so primal and atavistic, West v East and black v white. Not so much a game of tennis, more a duel as to who gets to mate with the caveman who felled the woolly mammoth. The men's singles are tame and predictable in comparison.

Hmm. Generally it's the males competing for the most breedable female, neil...

I wonder if those two are as vocal when they're in the sack?

Just a passing thought, I really couldn't care less what their proclivities include.

No, I don't. You just can't see my eyes twinkling when I type.

Yes, ag, young males do indeed compete for breeding females, often loudly and aggressively. Post-breeding females, however, often end up competing for the dwindling band of ageing males who haven't completely fallen apart. So there's still hope for George.

What a cracking match. I have to say that I was rooting for Sharapova - she looked almost too 'dainty' to play that strongly, but of course she is very powerful - and what an iron will she showed to come back in the first set. A wonderful advert for the women's game. Shame it didn't go to three sets, but Venus was just so awesome. A totally deserved win, utterly engaging from the first few shots. Really disappointed Shrapova didn't make it to the final - what did they say - there's been a Williams sister in the Wimbledon final for 10 years in a row now... As for the screaming, it was sort of amusing, the shrieks rising higher in pitch as the rallies went on. It's nice to see such commitment and at the end, a show of joy for winning from Venus - far better to see some emotion rather than acting like an autonomon.

I've always liked the Williams sisters, and tend to root for them regardless of who they're playing. They both have the physiques of goddesses; absolutely awesome to watch.

Because I said - before I apologised - that he thought he was the king of abc. I don't mind the screaming, because the blokes do it and nobody says anything about it. I think people find it uncomfortable because it reminds them of sex.

If a woman made that noise during sex, I'd call an ambulance (afterwards)

There has been a Williams in the final this decade. This game is why I would like to see women play the best of five sets. And there can't be any physiological reason why they can't. (Think Paula Radcliffe and all the long distance women runners. ((I'm thinking of them all and lo it is good))) God five sets of Williams/Sharapova, and we'd be remembering this Wimbledon for this match. And yes, then women get parity in prize money. It's a shame that Kournikova has retired, people forget she was a damned good player, at 16 she got to the semi-finals of Wimbledon. Can you imagine the money/interest, that would be generated by Sharapova v Kournikova?????? And yes I realise that I'm getting into pretty dodgy territory here vis-a-vis sexism and racism. Discuss.
