momentous moments
I've just made a momentous decision!
I've decided to trade my PS2 for a Nintendo DS!
Any thoughts...?
Fool. PS2 is far superior - why don't you wait for Sony to bring out the hand held PS
Buy some good books and start a book club, instead. ;-)
Ahhhhh....Jude-Jude, surely God plays Nintendo!
Nintendo is latino for tending the flock, ain't it? ... sniggers ... spanks mover and pushes off!
*trips over chainsaw*
The Nintendo DS is a truly ground breaking machine, the second touch sensitive`screen opens the door to totally new types of games, The potential it offers is enormous.
The PS2 is getting a little long in the tooth now and the game developers are now concentrating their energies on the next generation of machines.
The PSP is, on first sight, a great little gadget and it will sell well, but it is trying to be too many things at once... but bear in mind you will only get an average of two hours battery life between charges.
The thoughts behind my decision making are thus...
Mostly what Foxy said!
Also...
PSP does indeed look to be a fine machine, but the console's too expensive, the games are too expensive, and, to quote Foxy, "it is trying to be too many things at once"
Games out so far for DS look fun in an original, light-hearted sort of way... and I really like the idea of the touch screen.
Have played Wario Ware Touched several times in a shop... already addicted!
My PS2 controller's gone a bit wibbly.
PS2 is not as "exciting" as it used to be.
PS2 is too much of a distraction from my other, creative pursuits - i.e. WRITING!!
I want to intensify the anticipation for PS3.
DS & games thereof are cheaper than PSP.
QED... (or not)
LOl ... you and that QED quirk.
Touch screen ... MMMM, tactile is best.
I've a voice command on my G4 Quicksilver, but it's learnt to swear back at me ... and there I was thinking it's the world, not me :(
PS3 is what I'm saving my cash for...
...I think I might have to lie down for a little bit.
I think that touch screens are a problem so I'd go for the psp.
Any mobile unit that has a touch screen will be a pain, they get scratched in your briefcase, they collect bits of gunk and fluff and dirt and finger marks. I know that, if left uncleaned anything can get clogged up (The keys on this keyboard are only being found from memory these days) but as long as something moves then it seems more reliable to me.
I've had several palmtops Ipaq etc and you end up tapping the screen harder and harder as the sensitivity fades, or the pen thingy gets lost so you use a normal pen or your finger which gets the screen all greasy because someone wants some info when you're having your lunch etc etc. You get my point.
they'll end up having to bring out some kind of removable cover to protect the screen which will diminish sensitivity.
also the control level is in doubt to me. I've seen someone playing splinter Cell on one (as in the adds) and it looks a bit hit and miss as far as all the subtleties of directions and comands are concerned, you've got a little green target area the size of a 50p and you have to do everything through it with a pen.
Nope, for something portable you need buttons you can rely on and that fit the proportions of your fingers so you're not fumbling across a microdot with big sausdage hands. It's the same with little joysticks (as on many modern mobile phones for menu scrolling etc) too small to be used correctly.
Trade them both for a book.
Ah, RD, at least on this, we are of one mind...
>>> I've a voice command on my G4 Quicksilver
...what's a G4 Quicksilver?
>>> Trade them both for a book.
...reading? Who wants to do reading these days?
Re the touch screen issue... I don't really care!! I'm not thinking long term, I just want to have fun for as long as pos with a quirky little machine (which also looks rather sexy, I have to add)... and by the way, how does it scratch whilst in one's briefcase, if you keep the top closed?
I can't do it! I boxed up my PS2 last night, with controllers, games, etc... and I just felt too sad at the thought of letting her go!
The non-gamers amongst will no doubt be saying to yourselves, "sad is the word," but the thought of parting with a dear friend of two years is just too much of a wrench at my soul!
I have, however, deduced that my "gaming life" needs an injection of freshness, so I've decided to spend my £36 on a new official controller & a lovely new game, trade everything else at Gamestation and keep the new credit note for future gaming loveliness - but NOT a DS! Because 2 consoles will just clutter my mind too much.
I've changed my mind too much on this issue and I really ought to think about other things now. I never envisaged the emotional torment I would experience!
Off for a lie down and a cup of tea...
A book is a great analogue device that has not yet been surpassed by any digital technology (and it will be a long time before they do).
I do wonder, if when books first came out, people were moaning about them as much as they do these days about anything 'new' or 'innovative'
'Books! papers and pen? Are you mad? You can never replace a good piece of slate and a trusty chalk, no-way! It's environmentally friendly for a start - next thing they will be cutting the forests down just so you can read about celebrities, sex and violence! You can keep your damn books!' etc.
well I was referring mainly to my palm tops which I'd always leave out of the case or put in my trouiser pocket while distracted next to my keys. It's the same with mobile phones, I've got the new Samsung E720 which has a sceen on the outside for when it's closed and that's already scratched on coins and keys etc.
... ANd it keeps taking bloody pictures of the inside of my pocket!
(yes, yes, yes, before anyone else says it... there's nothing to see there... It'd need a zoom lens etc etc)
Mr. Droopy-pooter I presume?
"Muuuuuuuuuuum! I made chocolate again, bring the bucket and a towel, I want a foot massage!"
"sweetums, you're 37 now, maybe you can wipe yourself?"
"WIPE MYSELF? I always knew you hated me!"
"now now precious, you know you're still mummy's brave soldier, I'll get the bucket and towel and maybe a little treat for upsetting you so, what would you like my cherub?"
"tell me about girls again and stay that side of the door while I'm mast..err..infiltrating"
sniff the webmaster.
A-a-a-a-a-anyway!
Back on topic (ignore the so-called "INFILTRATOR" and maybe they'll go away)...
I had doubts last night - about the trade (PS2 for DS), that is... So I decided to trade all of my games but Rayman Revolution, get a new controller and then see if I could get any more mileage out of it (the PS2, that is). Well first of all, The Software Store, where I have my £36 credit note, is presently not doing part-exchange, coz they are having a 20% off sale... AND... they informed me they were being bought by Eplay in a couple of weeks. They said Eplay should still accept my credit note, but I'll be contacting Software Store's head office to check that out... Anyway, hold up there, take a few steps back... "being bought by Eplay"? How can this be! My most favouritest videogames shop in the whole wide world! I need reassurance... Can anyone herewith tell me if I should be worried? Are Eplay, like, any good'n'stuff? Do they give good trade value?
Anyway, moving on (if you're still reading, that is), I ventured forth to Gamestation (feeling like a bit of a traitor, I must say), traded Sims 2 (PC game) for a new third part controller (on account of the fact, as you may recall from the above, that the left stick on my existing, OFFICIAL controller, has "gone a bit wibbly" (or did I say "wobbly"? No matter...) - twas a Logic2 controller for £9.99 - an exact swap for Sims 2, which seemed fortuitous. Excitedly, I got my new controller home, plugged it in and proceeded to proceed with some Medal of Honour:Frontline and Rayman Revolution. NEVER WILL I STRAY FROM THE FOLD OF SONY AGAIN! - well at least where PS2 controllers are concerned. It's clicky, a little too chunky and the sticks are insensitive (I mean to say, they aren't very good at fine movements, not that they draw attention to my insecurities and so forth).
I find myself, this morning, thinking that my original decision was correct, and that I should trade PS2 + games + other stuff for a Nintendo DS... but I want to do it now but I can't but I WANT TO and and I CAN'T and...
Some may think I am terribly sad for worrying myself over such things.
For those who don't...
Reassurance required! (i.e. that Eplay are "OK" and DS is "pretty neat" (or somesuch))
Ta'n'everything,
"P"
