"Sharing"
Why is this expression employed so much these days instead of "discuss". It's very "care-bear" !
Or has it always been around and I've never noticed?
Yep, I'm in agreement with Missi for once. When I was on The French Riviera some years ago, I was agog (well you would be!) at the acres of pert mammary glands on show. And not just the women. But there is always a down side. I was aghast at the mileage (Kilometreage?) of half-naked fat German women. We need The Fat Police. If you're overweight then you have to cover up. That's what clothes were designed for. And yes, I'd have to cover up.

ha ha ... I am laughing again. And the osteopath has given me some wonderful treatment so am no longer in bitter agony!
life is good!
It comes from the 12 step groupings. I first heard it in AA in 1988, and it still rankles. It probably originates from California.
I don't want to share my experiences, they're mine, no-one else can experience them for me. I don't mind discussing them with you though.
The worst is the ads for xtian retreats though..."come together to pray and to share with like minded young Christians"
Share what I ask? Clothing? Beds?
They'll see the real Jude come through sooner or later and kick you out if you talk like that! Just go with the flow and "minister to one another" ...
"Sharing" is a New Age expression from the 70s which actually originated in kindergarten and elementary school when kids are asked to "share" a story about something they've done with the rest of the class. The 12step groups also use the phrase, but it is far from unique to them.
There's an old joke that goes:
How many Californians does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer: Five. One to screw in the bulb and four to share in the experience.
That one got howls of laughter about 20-25 years ago.
I find it silly myself ("sharing" that is, not the joke), and it is certainly overused.
how many hypnotherapists does it take to change a lightbulb?
only one but the bulb has to be open to suggestion
>>> Share what I ask? Clothing? Beds?
...diseases, perhaps?
good evening everyone and thanks for inviting me to this collective sharing experience.
I'm thoroughly enjoying the cakes and mr Bradshaw's wife and I sincerely hope you'll help yourselves to my debts, piles and athelete's foot.
... hello? Where's everyone gone?
Don't get me started on "social services" speak.
Another one is having "issues around" something, rather than disliking, objecting to, or disapproving, as in "I sense that you have issues around my style of speech."
No, I don't have issues.
I want you to speak English, Shitforbrains.

has anyone mentioned 'differred success' yet?
Well mr Whitley I'm afraid your van has diferred successed its MOT.
Rachel had some good ones!
Children don't have "pushchairs" any more they have "Travel-carry-systems"
They don't grow up to have "lives". They have "collected cluster experiences" !!!
I am off sick as I am imobile with back and head pain today so keep the phorums going! they are my only outlet
I am presently enjoying a bread/cheese interface (aka. "sandwich")
Have you tried using a low-tech analogue imagination device...
...a book?
I am being held aloft at this very moment by an anti-gravity device (chair).

"I think you have some issues to deal with," she said.
"Actually, no, I just think you're an annoying jerk, and the evidence is so overwhelming, there is no way I could possibly take issue with anyone making such an assertion," he responded.
I am particularly rankled at our council's 'Team Building Exercises', wherein we are asked to 'share' some personal experience about ourselves.
Number one: I'm at work, with co-workers, not 'team' members.
Number two: If you get on with your co-workers (as I do, mostly), why, pray tell, have to expend effort to 'build a team'?
Number three: Personal experiences are personal; if I haven't shared them at work, chances are good that I don't feel they're appropriate for work.
We had one of these on Thursday; as a consequence I developed a crushing migraine and had to leave the team-building exercise early. The only blessing of a migraine.
Clearly, I must have issues around building stronger teams.
O the delights of 'Team Building Exercises'!
We had one of these just t'other day, where we all played a watered down version of 'Catch Phrase'... and were then forced, one by one, to 'share' with the 'team' a success we had recently 'achieved'... Garned information (aka 'propaganda') to then be taken to our rulers with the purpose of demonstrating how happy and succesful we all were.
I'm leaving my job tomorrow.
Yesterday, I shared the bed of my pickup truck with two dogs. It still smells like wet dog back there...and stale beer from the empty cans.
"Where did my rifle rack go?"
I'd like to share a personal experience with you all.
Earlier this afternoon I needed to use the lavatory. The building I work in has shared facilities on each floor, so off I trotted to the Gents. As I was going in, a very large, sweaty man with a straggly beard and terminal acne was coming out. I was faced with a choice of three open doors; I chose the furthest away from the entrance door.
Kecks down, sat down.
The seat was still warm.
Aaaaaarrrrgggghhhh.
Don't you just love sharing.
[%sig%]
urrrrgh!
I hate it when someone gets up from a train seat and you forget they were just sat there and rest your hand on the now empty seat. You can feel the heat from their sweaty pile encrusted ringer that was literally millimeters away from where you're resting your hand.
