No Fly Zone

I don’t want to fly anymore.  In planes I mean.  If I could actually fly, I’d be completely fine with that.   Total control, not too high up, nice warm scarf and keep your mouth shut in case of beasties. As for the mechanical real-world type of flying, I’d love to pontificate about the ozone, saving the planet and all this, but the reality is, flying scares the shit out of me.  That bit just after take-off where it sounds like it’s going to stall and fall out of the sky.  I literally stop breathing at that part.  So, it may be time to get a senior railcard and go by train.  Just not in a heatwave.

Over my working life, I did a lot of travelling.  It was great.  I loved it, and when art galleries started opening late at least one night a week, I was in seventh heaven.  Of all the places I went to, London is my favourite.  Holy trinity; V&A, Fortnum’s, Liberty.  All the better for somebody else paying the ticket to get there.  It wasn’t all bullies and bullshit.  Consequently, I had a lot of Avios air mile points, and had been thinking of blowing them on a trip to Vienna or Helsinki, which are next on the list.  I inter-railed to Vienna years ago, but had such a bout of post-work-stress flu, that my only memories are some of the Klimt’s being surprisingly super tiny, and a stork shitting on my arm.  (Huge, and can only hope the luck was commensurate).

But as flying is a no-no, in case of stork attacks, had a look at what else could be done with Avios.  About £100 of vouchers for Sainsbury’s, or, a MacBook NEO half price.

Went for the citrus one.  The pink is wishy-washy.
