The Uplifting Nature of Nine Inch Nails

I'm sitting here listening to the album "With Teeth, with its tales of death, despair, hell, torture, suicide, etc... and damn, it feels good! Am I evil? Am I beyond hope of salvation? Or is it that such tunage reminds us that, hey!, life is shit, but we can have a f**king good time whilst living it?...!!

There is no you, there is only me!
There is no you, there is only me!
There is no f**king you, there is only me!
There is no f**king you, there is only me!

You tell 'em, Trent!! :-) :-! :-o

( *** ahem *** )

When I'm feeling dirge-ful I like to put on either Bauhaus or Joy Division, depending on the timbre of the dirge-fulness. But I draw the line at NIN. Poor Trent has a few too many issues for this archergirl.
Trent has a veritable plethora of issues! That said, I suppose the upliftingness also arises from thoughts such as... "Christ, at least I don't feel as bad as him" (I bet he's a big old softy really, who drinks tea, eats strawberry scones and smiles involuntarily at puppies) ~PEPS~ “There is no spoon.”

I dunno; misery has a limit beyond which it becomes extremely self-indulgent. I find that kind of misery a bit boring. It's like, yeah right, pull your socks up and sort yourself out, mate! *Your* life (meaning Trent's) ain't so bad. I'm not sure I feel uplifted by such thoughts, though! Mostly just exasperated.
I may be entirely wrong, but listening to some of the lyrics and just the absolute pure intensity of some of NiN's music, I reckon there is a deep, dark sense of humour behind it all... I mean, one can't seriously have that much of a downer on life, can one? Or maybe he is simply a loonpot... ~PEPS~ “There is no spoon.”

I suggest that the honourable Pepsoid has it correct for the second option.
I posit the proposal that the honorouble Ms Girl (Archer) MP does perhaps speak truthfully in the manner of the aforementioned... to whit, the "loonpot"-ness of Mr Reznor. ~PEPS~ “There is no spoon.”

Well, he *did* look kinda sexy all trussed up like a turkey in that video from years ago; but he's getting a bit long in the tooth to keep perpetuating that idea that his life's so bad. I mean, he earns enough; why not get some counselling, fer crissakes? I'm sure it's just an industry thing; much like Marilyn Manson is actually a very normal, intelligent man outside his stage persona. I think.
Manson's lovely! Did you see him interviewed on Jonathan Ross? He is indeed an intelligent, witty fellow, who fully admits it is all just an act... I'd take afternoon tea with him and his delightful missus any day! ~PEPS~ “There is no spoon.”

I rarely watch Jonathan Woss. His lisp weally bugs me for some weason, although the man can pick a suit! I'm waiting for Neil Diamond to come on.
My girlfriend likes Neil Diamond... *** groan *** Apparently Ross is going to go up against Charlotte Church in her wonderful new show... hmm, I wonder which one I shall be watching... ?? :-! ~PEPS~ “There is no spoon.”

GONNASMASHMYSELFTOPIECES I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO a youth anthem for me. I tried. I gave up. Fuckin' knew I would! Oh Trent is full of tongue-in-cheek. Like Faust, he used to lock himself away and record himself playing with chainsaws. Now - faust did that when they were chock-full with psilocybin - reznor did it for hobby, There's nothing more mind-teasing than the incomprehensible eagerly avowed - Dennet

Johnny Cash breathed life into the NIN song "Hurt". Trent's version just sound like another rock singer singing a rock song, whereas Cash sounds like he knows what he's on about! I think Trent tries too hard to be tough and ends up sounding wimpy. Killing Joke everytime for this sort of thing. No humour.
Good to hear joy division, bauhaus and the joke are still doing their thing for people out there. Ah, the maukishness of youth, where would we be without it? Great fan of all three (particuallarly JD). yes you are right josiedog, Johnny Cash breathed life into his version of Hurt. We live a a generation of instant 'classics' and young 'stars' pontificating about their hard life and how they 'beat' the system in some way and 'I'm a survivor' - spare me! hard life surviving the mickey mouse club and middleclass mundanity... On a serious note, does anyone have a record player they don't want? I have an entire collection of Joy division on vinyl (some bauhaus and joke) and you know when you just get in the mood to listen, and there aint no player! PS had to look the word 'vinyl' up to check the spelling - it has been a long long time since I used the word.
Somehow I just knew you'd be a Nails fan, Yan! :-) I'm wracking my brain... what's that Adam and the Ants song he covered? ~PEPS~ “There is no spoon.”

"Physical," that was it! You're just... too... phy-si-cal! Yes, he definitely has that tongue firmly wedged cheekward... ~PEPS~ “There is no spoon.”
