I'm a northerner myself. I spend my time between Grimsby (yes, literally the grimmer end of the country) and Bolton which is 20 minutes by train to Manchester so i'd be interested in a Manchester based event, although i know it'd be poetry-heavy and i'm not a poet myself. it's always interesting to meet people interested in writing. But you're not alone Ja, mate.

Far from it! I'm in bloody Amsterdam, so my chances of making it to a Do are even slimmer than yours...

Grimsby and Bolton?? It's Leeds and Wigan for me, but anywhere like Leeds/Manchester/Sheffield, even as far south as Birmingham would be okay as the events usually seem to be midweek and getting to and from would actually be possible then. While your chances of getting to the nights out may be slim Andrea, console yourself you live in the very bohemian Amsterdam, as opposed to flat cap country (which is not to say I don't love the place). Still, it'd be good to put a few abc faces to names, so any help from the powers that be would be great.

There seem to be people from all over the world on this site. That's the beauty of the Internet - it doesn't matter much where you are. I'm just amazed how many polyglots thee are out there. If you really want to get to an ABC event in London Ja, there's alway trains, planes or buses. I don't think hitch hiking works as well as it did but if you carry a sign.... From some of the postings on Wolfgirls 'Do I live ..." you are probably a lot better staying up here in the grimmer, but friendlier, North.

I think you mean de Stiltwalker tribe Hugh. They are so tall that on a clear day you can see them from the top of cathedral spires in Holland.

Well, I've never been to Holland, although I should have caught on because I was aware of the dikes. Kansas is a very flat state because most of the area was once under the ocean (Kansas is regionally famous for its useful abandon salt mines), but in the Northern part where I live (I guess I should have said Northeastern part) it can get quite hilly. The highest point in Kansas (humorously called Mt. Sunflower) is in a flat field. It is on top of no apparent hill -- just a spot in a field. I love the post cards I see some places that say "Ski Mt. Sunflower." Part anxiety because our neighboring state, Colorado, is probably THE premier skiing location in the Western US. I'm sorry! I wasn't aware that it was a joke! Practically EVERYONE says that Kansas is the flatest state in the US --- and it probably is!

I went to Holland - it was flatter than Cambridge, which is a pretty impressive feat. Around here, people pay you good money for the priviledge of climbing the cows. I've made a fortune out of pretending I own the cows, heh heh heh

Well, I wasn't being entirely accurate... Southern Holland (Maastricht/Valkenberg way) does have one or two slight elevations as it's on the edge of the Ardenne. Valkenberg even has a CASTLE! Imaging that! Bet there's nowt like that in the UK, eh? And it's true...the Clogs are the tallest race in the world (thought the other lot were the Zulus though). Gawd, how I long for just the occasional mountain - even a little one would do...
