Any books you are glad not to have written?
So, anyone got any books that they like, but are very pleased it was not them that wrote it? (A slightly bizarre thread, I know).
Well, for me, 1984 by George Orwell. I love the book, I love what it is saying, but I find it intolerable that my name and my concepts and ideas were being used to promote values I would have despised (for example right wingers, particularly Americans, are always complaining about 'Big Brother' and often use 1984 to attack all of socialism, which it never set out to do).
Also, anything by George Eliot. I recognise her as a very talented writer (though a bit long-winded for my taste) but I would have hated to rob the Victorian age of the revelation that the novels of George Eliot were actually written by a woman.
