'Behold the Man' by Michael Moorcock

I just read this last night in preparation for a uni course on British fiction of the 60s. I thought it was amazing, the best thing I've read for a while. Was wondering if anyone has read it? Would recommend it to the point of urging people to read it. Also, has anyone read anything else by M.Moorcock as I believe he has written gadzillions of books?

I am so pleased that someone has read this quite astonishing book by Moorcock. I was a complete Moorcock nut when younger and although some of his books may be a little 'dated', they contain astonishing ideas and whimsical pieces of prose. I would recommend the Jerry Cornelius books, especially 'A Cure For Cancer'. Also, the 'Adventures Of Catherine Cornelius And Una Persson'. He has also written a huge range of fantasy books. I think Behold The Man should be compulsory reading, Beef. When you finish that final paragraph, you either laugh or whistle out loud. Also, it is such a small book but packed with neurosis, questions on Christianity, sexuality etc etc..... Moorcock unfortunately has fallen out of 'fashion'...ridiculous as it seems....Jerry and Catherine Cornelius have to be some of the most fascinating characters, plus the revolutionary Una who was my role model in adolescence. His books are acutely sexy too.....'Adventures of....' has some very toe wriggling passages. BEHOLD THE MAN. I guarantee it will blow the reader away: Imagine a nervous neurotic boy driven by angst and curiosity to go back in time and meet Jesus. Unfortunately, the Jesus he meets is a shocking travesty of the expected Messiah. How can he 'right' history and ensure the foundation of the Church? How far must he go?

I'll see if I can hold of them through the library Wolfie. Was definitely blown away - you know when you read your first book by someone and think 'how have I not read anything by this person before?' Will let you know if the lecture's interesting/any good W! Not MEANT to be reading in preparation HS, but I thought I'd read as many course books over the summer as poss since I never seem to finish any of them in time in term-time!

Michael Moorcock - that would be *such* a badass name for a pornstar. I have nothing intelligent to add. Sorry.
