The Long and Short of it

To me there is no difference in feelings of attraction towards a women whether they have long or short hair. I was at a party last night and a lot of women there had short hair, and a lot had long hair, but it didn't stop me feeling attracted to them, no matter what hairstyle they had. I noticed that the thing that captivates me and makes me feel attracted to someone is their smile. I find people who smile really attractive. I recently cut my hair short, and I really like it short, is less hassle and easier to manage. And you feel fresh, and can feel the breeze on your scalp, which is nice. I think short hair is great on male/female. Don't bother me.. all ladies are lovely to me. They got a nice vibe that glows from them.. especially at parties. I like women a lot.. whatever kinda vibe they wanna style their hair looks great to me.

I wish I had a Beckham cut. However I've only dyed my hair once when I tried to look like Gomez out of the Addams family and ended up looking like Vincent Price on speed. :) iceman

I like that short haired look when you can tell the person (of either sex) used to have long hair, so it is chopped looking. But I'm a short-hair person so my hair looks used to being short. I am growing it now but i'll have probably given up by autumn . If I do grow it I'll have to change the colour, it will look so browwwwnnn.

I think apart from hair, faces are quite important. It's only when you look at somebody's face can you tell if they are laughing or crying or being inscrutable. I also have this theory that there are a limited amount of "faces" available which is why a lot of people look like other people. There not doubles they just happened to have the same face. iceman

I once tried growing my hair, and it got longer over the years but still looked shite. I was at this company do, where I had this terrible hair. I'd had a few and wasn't finding any girls to dance with, either there weren't any girls there that wanted to dance, or if they were it was some other guy now. After a while I went in the bog and wet down my hair into a bizarre Michael Caine style hair style, then stood alone for half an hour looking extremenly annoyed. It was probably the worst company do I had been too by one. Funnily enough the previous year we went over the docklands and it was complete shite and I ended spending most of the evening p****d out of my head trying to flirt with girls, who in turn were trying to get drunk as quickly as possible. When my hair is good, I feel good, like one time in the Grand Hotel in my town I checked my reflection in the mirror and realised I had captured the Milkshakes look completely. I think long hair looks more sexy on girls. But, I also like the way that a girl can suddenly look different when they have their long hair cut. I suppose long hair I favour over short hair. iceman

I suppose it is because most girls I know have short hair that it adds something to the way they look if they grow their hair. I know my wife looked completely different with longer hair. She hated it, as she often went to the gym, and now she wears it short. Is it more sexy? I must admit, after the third attempt to reply with something other than witty remarks it was the first thing I thought of. Yes, I think it does look sexy. I have known girls with long hair and I like them with long hair. Maybe I might have been a professional hairdresser in another life, as I often want to style girls hair better. And as for clothes that some of them wear to work...however since I am crap at drawing and so forth I doubt whether there will be a collection of Clothes by Ice iceman

For me it depends a lot on the person's face. Some people just look better with short hair or long hair and it depends more on their facial features etc. I don't really have a preference, though I would probably lean towards shortish hair. Something like Zoe Ball, for example. That's short without being REALLY short, yet it is surely not long. On the other hand, I am not especially attracted to the really short-short hair on women because it gives me the impression that they hate themselves and really wish they were men. Why would I want to have anything to do with someone who hates themselves? Yeah, I know, that's not necessarily what it means, but that's the impression it gives. Then again, after speaking with the person, if they in fact are not like that, then the hair makes no difference. Much of it is aesthetics. For example, a tallish and largish woman with really short hair might look a bit silly because it would make her head look really tiny and out of proportion. Or a smallish petite woman with a huge bushy hairdo would look especially silly because there would be more hair than person. so for aesthetics alone, a bigger hairdo on a larger woman and vice versa makes sense. I really don't think men see short hair on a woman as emasculating. That sounds like some mouldy old theory from the 70s. It's like the idea that long hair on men is means they are effeminent (sp?). Maybe in 1890, but today most gays seem to sport very short hair and all the long-hairs are construction workers and pro wrestlers.

I have had both long and very short hair and from my experience the majority of men definitely feel less threatened by girls with long hair- like it makes the "softer" or something. I think it appeals to the "traditional" side of men as a girl with long hair does look more stereotypically feminine. One of my ex-boyfriends hated my short hair and was always asking me to grow it as he said it made me look like a boy. I felt pretty weird about that and think it was the start of mydecision to terminate said relationship! I once heard that men like women with long hair because they would like them to wrap it around their bits!

Right, girls with short hair, seem more aloof and possibly threatening. My brother's girlfriend had really short hair then she grew it and it looked better, she's about 5 foot 8 inches tall. I agree that the shape of a lady's face or how short or tall she is also matters as sometimes long hair can look silly or short hair butch. I am over 6 foot tall and have spikey hair at present. Quick aside on hair: I had my hair cropped then went to Heaven with a friend dressed in PVC and leather. Afterwards he said had I noticed I was being stared at? No, I said. Then it dawned on me, why they might be staring. iceman

what about men with long hair? they either seem to be really vain, tossing it about and conditioning it all the time, or else have it all lank and greasy and disgusting. Although, come to think of it, I had a boyfriend with long hair who was neither vain nor was his hair disgusting, but it did keep plugging up my shower which was annoying and I spent a lot of money on sink unblocking products til my mum bought me a nice little sieve thing that collects all the hair while the water goes down the plug hole.. also disgusting, but very useful!! Men usually prefer my hair longer. The only reason I have managed to extract for this is that "it looks nicer"/"I like girls with long hair". Not very mind-blowing reasoning. I reckon it must just make them feel more masculine when you look more feminine. and why is it that men losing their hair can have it cut really short and look much sexier than if they comb one or two strands over the top of the bald patch?.. why would most girls agree with this?

I agree with Justyn (shock horror), it depends on the woman's face. I do like long hair, though. My wife has very unusual hair, thick and very curly, and it looks great long. People always remark on it.

Eyes are very important in the attraction stakes. You can tell a lot about a person from their eyes. It's the first thing I look at when I check someone out

Sadly, I used to have lots of very long hair. Then, after my daughter was born, strange hormones (the women nod knowingly) made my hair snap off and it never grew again. I hate my short hair but it will not grow. Any tips gratefully received.... By the way, I would love long hair but I think short hair on some women can look devestatingly sexy. Just not on me. Sob.

Or one of those really butch bull-dyke types who flounce around gesturing wildly for no apparent reason.

Men with long hair are either vain or have lank disgusting thatches? Ok Gail if you say so! Men have been conditioned to think long hair on women is sophisticated, feminine and sexy. You only have to look at the stereotypes that have emanated from Hollywood for the past 70 years to realise that practically all the female stars had long hair, frequently hanging to partly conceal the face, or rising and falling in time to heaving bosoms. I suspect that a lot of men with long-haired partners see their wife/girlfriend as their very own Marilyn Monroe or Jane Russell.

Funky, Vincent Price was in the film Laura (relatively minor role), the original Fly, and a bunch of horror films like The Pit and the Pendulum. He did the "scary" voice on that Micheal Jackson song Thriller (I think that was the one). He wasn't such a great actor, but in his real life, he was a highly educated man (Princeton or Yale grad in fine arts), an art collector, opera patron, etc etc. He was a regular on the chat shows in the U.S. in the 60s and 70s, quite amusing and entertaining conversationalist I might add. I think he also hosted some "scary story" TV shows as well.

Eyes. Eyes may be the windows to the soul, but I am not so sure. We can say nothing and talk with our eyes, just the way we look at each other, yet I have never seen eyes that told me they belonged to a bad girl, or a bloke from the wrong side of town. Ha ha....If my hair was down to the floor and along several pavements, no-one would ever see me as Marilyn Munroe... Pierre had longish hair when I met him, tied back in a ponytail. It looked awful and then one day he cut it all off and a quite halfway good-looking of them. Take that gorgeous Spanish dancer for instance (I'd like to take him...) It is all a question of 'suits you sir, or madam...' I still want long hair and so far, I have had no advice. *sulks*

wolfie you are gorgeous with short hair, as i recall... but as for advice, i have it on very good authority that its best to attempt to grow hair in the summer. It grows faster... i know this to be true, as mine is BOINGING out of my head at about 5" an hour. On men with long hair..my ex husband had beautiful long curly hair which he used to tie back all the time. He whinged and moaned about actually wanting to have it cut, but chickened out every time he actually tried to go get it done. One New Years day, he was sprawled across the dining table, out for the count dead drunk, so I picked up the scissors I had used to snip the bacon with, and chopped off his hair just below his pony tail... it was prolly the beginning of the end but it gave me and the several friends visiting a jolly good guffaw...

On a practical level long hair can be wrapped around anything you like...why not? It can also be up in a bun and then let down in a classic "business woman in glasses kicks off shoes, takes off glasses and lets hair down with a shake of the head" kind of way. The down side is that it DOES block up the shower plug hole EVERY DAY (my other half has long hair) and it can be a nuiscance (sp?) in windy conditions and can choke you if it falls all over your face during a passionate clinch and you're a bit short of breath. Anyone with good bone structure can have either style and any colour and look great, others need a certain style to accentuate/hide certain features.

*confesses to liking long hair on guys* Am growing mine at the moment - it's a bloody nightmare. Keeps flopping (the hair, that is) in me face. Drives me mad. Don't know if I'll stick it out (so to speak). Always had long hair up until about 3 years ago, then went for the chop...soooo much cheaper on shampoo/conditioner etc then decided to 'ave a change (again). Don't care what blokes think...I'll do it my way...tra la
