An experiment
Hi,
Sorry to post another 'read me and appreciate me' message, but I'm running low on shame at the moment.
I posted a story a while back which was a bit of an experiment and I reckon I managed to put everyone off by describing it as being about a medieval ex-sufi. It's called 'Red Sea Pearls' and can be found at:

The idea was to write a story intended to be read aloud in a west country accent. There is method in this - somewhere. The narrator is a man living in medieval Cairo, recounting the tale of how he was once converted to Sufism - a mystical branch of Islam. The slight accent in the text is to reflect that as both an outsider and a resident of Cairo (far from the linguistic heart of Arabia) he would have spoken with an accent.
The fact that I've felt compelled to explain all this probably spells doom, but never mind.
I'd be interested to know if the comments directed at the 'listener' come across as naff, what people think of the tone and generally any other comments.
Cheers,
Pete
