Captain Underpants

From the sublime to the ridiculous...

I'm now reading "Captain Underpants: Three More Wedgie-Powered Adventures in One" by Dav Pilkey, by way of garnering inspiration for having a go at writing children's stories. Tiz very silly and surprisingly funny! Anyone else recommend any good children's books in the same ilk?

Did you mean the Captain Underpants comic novellas? They're BRILL. 'Walter the Farting Dog' is one of my kids' favourites; great illustrations, too. But the best children's book, ever, as far as I'm concerned, is Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are. I could read that over and over. I like it better than the kids do! 'Room on the Broom' is also excellent; don't know the author but she's also the author of 'The Gruffalo' series. But neither of them are vulgar like Captain Underpants, so I'm not sure they qualify...I think CU is pretty much a genre of its own...
S'funny, I wasn't specifically looking for children's books in the library, but I spotted that on one of the promotional-type shelf-thingies and I thought, "That looks like my kinda book!" So I got it, I'm reading it & I'm loving it! What's odd, though, is that the stories are clearly set in America, with American cultural references & all that, yet the style is distinctly English, methinks. Do you know if the author is English but living in the US or anything? Anyway, ta for the reccies! :-) * P * :-) ( Read my blog! - www.oddcourgette.blogspot.com )
