The World Wide Web

Now here's an interesting thing... the other day I put my abctales name into Google. Most of you will know what happened next but I was a little surprised to find that 14 or so pages came up with stories I have written, comments made and my accounts page pasted right at the top of the search page.
So anyone in the world can get our stories and they don't have to log on to abctales to do it. I don't know if accessing stories this way will show on the number of 'reads' logged against each story. Maybe Tony will know that!
Whatever will they think of next?

Ray

what made you think they did have to log on?

It does show on the numbers of times read - if you look on the right hand side it tells you how many members and how many visitors are on at the time. Guests always vastly outnumbers members. Some of those 'guests' may be google robots and the like (whose reads do not click the counter) but many are people who just come to read.
Thanks Tony... but I don't know what a google robot is. Can you enlighten me? Ray

a "robot" is a little piece of software that the search engines use that scour the internet indexing webpages - that's how Google and the others build up their results pages and keep them up to date. They kind of act like users so many will register on websites like this one as "guests", even though it's not a person.
Thanks Kenny Ray
