Help! Formatting problem...
Hi folks,
I'm having a problem... as this line spacing
demonstrates!
I'm trying to paste a single-spaced document into ABC, but it keeps appearing double-spaced. I've tried writing it on two different word-processing programs, single-spaced - but it's still coming through as double-spaced. It's a poem, so there are short lines, and therefore a lot of returns before the natural end of a line - and it seems to be whenever I hit return, even in a single-spaced document, it's showing as double-spaced. I've even tried typing it directly into ABC - but again, each time I hit return at the end of a line, it
does this!
Any ideas what the problem may be, please?

Stan, if you press shift plus return, simultaneously at the end of each forced line-break, it might help. Also, it depends which search engine you use. Chrome works fine, but Firefox and Explorer give double spacing. Another thing you can try is when you copy and paste it into the formatting box on ABC, opt for the 'print as plain text' option, after you hit the 'OK' button.
Hope this helps.
Tina
Thanks very much, Tina. I'll try that. I use Firefox, but hadn't noticed the problem before. I thought it was probably some universal formatting problem on my PC!
You're welcome, Stan. Hope it works.
Sorry... I can't see where it says 'Print as Plain Text'.
Ah! Okay! Sorted! Shift and return did it!
Thanks again, Tina.
Am over the moon, Stan. I know how frustrating it is.
I'll be adding this to our FAQ section later today. We've had lots of queries about it - and I've spent the past couple of weeks trying out other editors to see if they are any better. The bottom line, I think, is that there's always a potential for software conflict when you take things from one program and put them into another. If only Word made an online editor!
Some other things that might help:
Update to the latest version of Word
Try Open Office
Clear the formatting from the original Word Doc before you copy & paste (there's even a nifty little button for this somewhere on the 'home' ribbon, if I remember correctly)
When this happens to me, often copying and pasting from one word doc to another, and then trying again, resolves the issue!
Sorry about this persistent and pesky problem!!
Thanks, Luke.
I've tried Open Office, but it seems to do the same thing. I suppose it's high time I updated from Office 2003 because it's all so different now. But there's still that niggling part of me that doesn't want to give Mr Gates any more cash
I seem to be able to work with the problem now, anyway. Thanks again for your help.
