One wrong word on this forum could destroy the planet

I believe very strongly that any one of us has the ability to be the instigator of global holocaust, albeit unwittingly.

In chaos theory in mathematics there is a well known and well established phenomenon known as the Butterfly Effect. You've probably all heard of it, but in case anyone hasn't this states that:

"A micro meteorological event such as the flapping of a butterfly's wing in one part of the world could create a disturbance that in the chaotic motion of the atmosphere could become amplified eventually leading to the creation of a tornado in another part of the world."

Well I believe a similar phenomenon is possible in everyday social interactions. A single negative word or action by any one of us here on this forum could set off a chain of events that causes that initial bit of micro aggression to be amplified till it eventually leads to the outbreak of World War Three.

I think we should be careful.

I don’t think there is any doubt nowadays that the speed of light (in a vacuum) can be exceeded - John mentions ‘entangled particles’ that in theory can instantaneously switch no matter the distance between them. You can even get light to seem to travel faster than C but it is argued that it merely the detector that is anticipating. None of this is really important because the real crux of the matter is whether you can actually transmit usable information faster than light. Entangled particles aren’t currently much use as you can’t detect their state so you might be able to transmit the information faster than light but you can’t read it. Unless their has been a very recent breakthrough the other methods suffer from various problems and so far as I know only Quantum Tunnelling has managed to offer any credible evidence that it can send information faster than light. I heard the music on the demonstration but it needs to be shown that no other mechanism could be involved and that the method of calculating the transmission speed is accurate. Still I’m quite certain that it’s only a matter of time ;o)

Yes you're wright Mykle, the experiment i was re faring to was a different one. I have this hobbit of re faring back to the Classical model, "The Einstein syndrome" - Not wanting to move away from what can be reasonably tested, to the Quantum where proof of theory becomes very problematic. Have we decided yet weather to conceder the Electron as behaving as a fundamental particle, or as a wave? Are as both?

Fatal Consequences by Roger McGough: I don't believe that one about the butterfly - The air displaced by the fluttering of its wings in Brazil causing a tidal wave in Bangladesh. Mind you, The day after I shook out a tablecloth on the patio there was an earthquake in Mexico. (Or was it the other way round?) From The Way Things Are copywrite Roger McGough, 1999

If there was a creature from another planet that used one mouth for speaking and another mouth for eating, it might be very unsettled to meet us Earth beings because we do both with a single mouth. Is it possible something similar is happening with waves and particles? ie two different things are emanating from the same metaphorical mouth?

I belive in this, i also belive a higher force catches words that could trigger it but are said by people well lets say under stress. It is definetly true. A few months ago i was working on a short story based on this theory and the jist of the story that there is a perfect sentence in every age that can trigger global catastrophe. When i was writing the story i was thinking really hard about this and anyway one night after a few beers and some might say it was my creative mind that caused it but anyway, the sentence came in to my head, and i dropped to me knees knowing i had found it. The perfect sentence within two hours of putting this sentence on a few online forums the world would start to change, for the worse it has to be said. It was cast in perfect semiotics and the averge human mind would have to take note of it they would have no choice. Within a second of the sentence coming to my mind it left in the next thought, a godly agenda. I never even attempted to write it down because i knew immediatly what it was. It was the most extreme piece of negative semiotic alive in the world to day and it is there. Adolf hitler, some might say Jesus Christ and a lot of the other religious leaders possessed this powerful intelligence and found these sentences in there ages and in turn changed the world, this is what it is all about. When you look closely at these people you obviousley see that all they really done in life was to release powerful semiotics in to the air which trangressed in to peoples minds. As for my night i found it i truly did, probably something that was dictated by negative energy in my mind and in doing so i picked up. It is there but maybe by refusing to write it down i in turn saved the world. On its release 'i might' have become the most powerful man in Europe overnight with millions behind me and the buzz of power, *evil*clouding my judgement fortuently i chose to reject it and thanked the goodness that surrounds us. Was this the final battle for mankind, maybe it was fought and won through one mans mind. A lot of people reckon when it would return it would come through the form of spirituality and enter like this. Just like it done to hitler but he chose to accept it. Fiction or truth that is up for you to decide but one thing is for sure tis the word that is the most powerful commodity mankind possesses. I think on eof the most important men to walk on this earth ever is robin allot the linguist, his papers are what it is all about.

The other thing I've never understood is this business about the observer affecting the experiment. If you put my cat in a box, he would jolly well know he was there and what was going on, and he'd certainly know if he was alive or dead, unless he fell asleep, so surely he would affect the experiment?

George, I haven't needed to google anything and if you had enough brain cells to constitute a memory you would realise that I have posted most of this before on different threads. I have had an interest in science all my life and try to keep up with the latest developments. You have frequently demonstrated that you know absolutely nothing about science and very little about most everything else - you should not presume that everybody else is pretending to understand things that they can’t even pronounce.

Scrodginer..Its very intresting if you've got time to think about it. And Cant know both the momentum and position of a particle at the same time. We can test any one, but not both at the same time.

I'm sure that John will point out that the cat is both dead and alive or neither ;o) It's not really meant to be taken seriously as it's only at the quantum level that it becomes apparent. Although some scientists take it seriously and assure us that the world splits in to two at every major decision.

I just knew I could get a bite out of you, Mykle. You know as well as I do your abusive description of me is wildly inaccurate, but if it makes you feel better I'm happy to bear it. I would point out to you that my command of the English language is a match for anyone on this site. I would also point out that if your grasp of science is similar to your grasp of international politics you need some lessons in the basics.

I think its the bugbear that must be resolved. Unless we can predict the moment to moment behavior o the system under observation, the i don't see how Physics can progress any further in understanding. So his principal is certainly up their Mykle.

I can still remember your prediction that Blair would come out of the Iraq war smelling of roses, George :) With such a deep understanding of not just the Iraqi people but even your fellows in the UK I don't think you are the man to give me any pointers nor even to try to analyse anything vaguely political.

I'm not in to reading just now just writing. I try and write poetry, short stories & film scripts and would like to write a couplke of plays. I have a feature film script in the house that i completed last year and tells the story of a group of indivuals involved in self harm, writing it reminded me of trainspotting except set around the theme of self harm. You know the way trainspotting changed peoples views of drugs (to an extent but certainley opened up the debate), anyway its JUST lying there, not doing much. As for reading, not much just now although read all sorts of genres. I think one of the ,most captivating books i have read was pappilon, purely for the story and whcih i managed to read in two days, it is 600 odd pages. I like a bit of everything apart from horror rarely caus ei read to much of that as a kid, hence the problems later in life.

I haven't read Pappilon s.d, but i know what you mean when a book grabs you and you just can't put the thing down. I hope you do something with you're Script, it sounds interesting and if its anything like the passion you put in to making people aware, then i know it will be from the heart. I'm poping out now, catch to you a bit latter s.d.

Dublindian. Its impossible to believe or not to believe. It cant be contested and so can neither be pr oven nor disproved. Personally, all i know for reasonably certainty, is that when i die, what will be left of my body will be the very particles that make me up. As for the Sole? who Knows?

a writer who loses his sanity can talk the biggest load of, this is to do with how much information the writers mind takes in in his/hers life through reading. I think this is to do with how the mind does not forget anything and in the incurring insanity (pressure, depression pychosis whatever) what is happening is the mind patterns are becoming crossed and can make the sufferer act strangely or talk incohherently. I hope this helps explain mine of late.
