I won
My story 'Teeth' was in the final of the Leicestershire Short Story competition. There was an event today at Borders bookshop and I won.
There were 10 finalists. 3 were stories of note, then there was a runner up, all of which the authors read out their stories, and then the winner was announced. I was sure I wasn't going to win and then it was me.
The prize is £500 and a £10 book token.
My reading was awful because I was so nervous. I was shaking and my throat was dry. But still....
I've never won anything before.
So tonight we are going out for a meal to celebrate.
Excellent work Drew. I love it when good things happen for others.
Well bloody done. ~:
well done drew.
i'm not surprised you won.
you're good.
Excellent...well done and have a good nosh up tonight.
Brilliant Drew, I've read your work here and I'm not surprised you've won something. I'll have a drink for you tonight.
Quite right too. Nice one mate.
Good luck to you Drew, you've worked hard at your writing and deserve every penny of the cash.
For a story compo, 500 wing-wangs is a fair bit of scratch. Well done Drew, although lord knows where the 10£ book token comes into things?
Brilliant, Drew - recognition at last! We all know you're good.
Really good news Drew. Well done.
Heh, I bet the £10 book token was Borders' contribution and the £500 was drummed up out of the entry fees.
Congratulations Drew!
Fantastic news Drew, well done.
Thanks everyone!
All 10 finalists got a £10 book token initially. And then the £500 was the top prize with £100 to the runner up. Not a bad amount as you say.
There weren't any entry fees as the competition was run by the Leicestershire County and Leicester City Libraries and judged by the literature development officers, some librarians and a sci-fi writer.
I don't know why the event was in Borders - when there are so many libraries but there was quite a good turn out.
It was in the local paper and also on the BBC Leicester website, and fingers crossed, we might be on the local radio too.
I guess all library services run this kind of thing so it's worth checking out. And also it was nice to meet the Literature Dev Officers and when Darts comes out I will be approaching them to stock it in the libraries.

When it came to announce the winner the guy started saying, 'It's a very dark tale...', and I thought, oh shit, it's not me then, and I was kind of packing up to go and the next thing I knew Gary was poking me in the side saying, you've won.
Well done Drew. You are an example to us all.
Congratulations!
hey well done drew! ... brilliant news ...
i looked on the radio leicester website and saw your cheeky chops ... felt proud ...
great stuff ...
congrats mate, well done.
well done
And the results are here.
Congratulations! Excellent news.
That's wonderful news to find on my return from cycling up the Tuscan Hills. Congratualtions - and much deserved.
Well done Drew!
Nice one Drew. About time too...
Joe
Thanks again, and nice to see you back Tony. Hope you had a great time. And you Emma - haven't seen you around for a while. And indeed you Marc - hope you are doing some writing.
