Now you know I don't go around stirring up trouble between us, but this is seriously pissing me off. Every so often UKA send me an EMail which allows me to read lots of good writing, but I can't log in to UKA as I forgot my password, and the ones they send me using their password generator never work.

No matter; I decided to give up my old stuff as lost and repost it to a new userid. I tried to log in as a new member, but my Email ID is already resident on their system. So I set up a new Hotmail account only to be told they won't accept new Hotmail IDs, despite sending loads of advertising my way via my existing Hotmail ID! These are the first people I've EVER heard of who discriminate against certain respectable service providers. What's the problem here??

Of course, I can't post these comments on their site as they're terrified someone unaccountable might say something nasty on their forums so they restrict access, but I know that Andrea and Richard dip in here now and again.
Come on guys, this is bloody poor.

Neil, do write Andrea directly. I recently wanted a new password because I'd forgotten the original and was puzzled because non seemed forthcoming, so I wrote asking her what was up. She immediately told me how to resolve the difficulty. It was no big deal. That was a little over three weeks ago. Unless there's been some major technical hitch since then. I imagine the ban on hotmail likely has to do with those who have hacked into the site or generally caused havoc for uka and its members: isn't it just a security measure to assure a user can be tracked down and identified if necessary? It may be the new host that has placed the restriction and not uka. The only way to find out is to ask Andrea and Richard, not post here. I would think.

gmail is the e-mail service from google, i think it's invite only at the moment...would you like an e-mail account jasper, send us your email addy and it's yours...

I feel I have to point out that what I posted yesterday was a bit rash and Andrea at UKA was quite gracious, considering, and has since tried to sort me out.

I'm not sure I would describe hotmail as a reputable service. They aren't doing anything illegal, but they aren't very good either. I freelance for a company in the US that employs about 250 such folks. They specifically refuse to hire anyone who uses hotmail because of the unreliability of the service compared to others. Of course, it's easy enough to set up an account at yahoo or elsewhere. Gmail is a fairly decent service--so far. I use it mostly for newsletter subscriptions and the like in an effort to cut down on spam to my normal account.

interesting that you use the term twerp, not a term used a lot nowadays, popular in the 70s i believe
