Jude - I downloaded Allegri last night and am listening now. 18MB of pure skin chill, and yes, it's one of the ones that I meant earlier. I am so glad to hear the names of things recommended by you and Ferg, because I've never known anyone before that could tell me what the music is called, so never knew... I mean, I couldnt go into HMV and ask for "something churchy in Latin that makes me cry" could I?
Cheers guys.
Gethsemane is a real grower. Hated it as a kid, but now recognise it as a musical, emotional tour de force, an amazing power ballad with key changes and lots of complicated stuff. And Rice's lyrics: kind of a forerunner to Radiohead, pure self-doubt and angst. My mum photocopied our library's JCS songbook at work, and our kid and I strummed and sang it.
What about that guitar riff on "Heaven on Their Minds"?
The pay off is good on "I don't know..." --- "I never thought I'd come to this..." , that bit.
I love the falsetto (of the guy in the film) on "This Jesus must die" -- and what a killer line: "...a man who is bigger / than John was when John did his baptism thing."
Can't get Karen into it: though she did sing spontaneously at the pub once: "What's the FUZZ, tell-me-what's-a-happenin'..." Fuzz. I ask ya.
I could talk about JCS all night. But I won't.
Yes, early Christians used the sign of the fish and, perhaps ironically, it was the Roman who changed the icon to a crucifix when they eventually adopted Christianity as the state religion.
