aha- an alternative

A Benefit Corporation's charter of incorporation legally requires the company to adhere to a socially-beneficial mission, such as protecting the environment or preserving employee benefits.

I wonder if we are turning our backs on capitalism?

I'd say that they sound like a kind of indirect Socialism, certainly not laissez-faire capitalism anyway because the corporations have restrictions that they have to adhere to. Also they get tax breaks because of their status as B-corporations so the state is indirectly taking a part in their regulation.
Yes I think that it sounds good !! ;D
But I think that, rather than being an argument for Capitalism versus Socialism, B corporations are a type of socialism. Quoting from wikipedia: The word socialism refers to a broad range of theoretical and historical socio-economic systems, and has also been used by many political movements throughout history to describe themselves and their goals, generating numerous types of socialism. I would describe B-corporations as a type of socialism because I have a broad definition of socialism that does not exclusively mean 'all companies should be state owned'.
I would call it a type of socialism as well- well-wisher- especially because the profits are used for social and environmental purposes and not for feeding the political machine. We have a way to go now but at least it has started seriously. Yahoo !!
Yes, I agree with you. It does sound good. Perhaps there could be a non-phone hacking B-corporation newspaper although they say that newspapers are on the way out, sadly.
I hardly ever, if ever, buy newspapers- I get my news on the inet. I don't think that Denmark is so innocent when it comes to phone hacking. I would like to see a similar unveiling here! I know that it happens.
