This is a taste of the future

I am sat upon the 21.07 train from London victoria to Brighton after attedning a book launch for Blackspring Press in London tonight and now I can connect to the internet on the train.

I’m still in awe of my laptop. A laptop for £300 odd quid and it’s faster than our home machine! The home machine that was the fastest thing on earth, around about last week… Years ago, when a friend and I ran a limited company, you had to write off the value of your hardware over three or four years (can’t quite remember) when all our stuff was technically superseded within 6 months and worth half its asset value. Always loved the Simpsons episode when Apu explained his college professor had convinced him that the technology of the future would keep getting bigger and more expensive.
They only got cell phones working in BART here in San Francisco this year. Wow, do I feel behind the times. ;) WiFi is fabulous, until it suddenly disconnects, and your boyfriend starts hurling things at the walls because Final Fantasy XI shut down in the middle of an important battle. Not even your neighbor's unsecured wireless can save you then!
