sophisticated descriptions for the two stories of the day, Andrew!
thought Liana's poem was particularly interesting.
both characters described seem to want to have the controlling share in leaning on the other.
curious.
And at last Liza Granville is WOTW!
Spot on Chant.
Well done.
And yet, if they both think they are leaning on the other, both of them must be allowing the other to lean on them. One of the most thought-provoking poems I've read since Fey sent in Gallery and then took out the most intriguing line *still gnashing teeth*
Tomorrow's poem is marvellous too - the only hard thing about picking Poem of the Day is the order to put them in.
ah - but how about if neither realises they are leaning on the other?
All this is hypothetical of course..
as I said at the time, I loved the last stanza.
Absolutely. A fine poem.
It's a truly brilliant poem, the sound so fluid as the shapes of the picture. It's brilliant. It would be great to have it on display with the picture :0)
Mr Pack, sir?
with regard to gallery, I DID put it back, but did you notice???
I meant o do this the other day and forgot!
picking up on Andrea's point ... yes. liza is WoTW. but why now?
I found ABC after hearing the JB himself on the radio extolling its vitues. One of the things he said was " and what a find liza granville was!"
I joined the next day and, sure enough, Liza's set was excellent. (this was in december 2000)
Shortly after the forum started - march/april? - there was a plethora of posts from people claiming that 'x' and 'y' and 'z' were the best writers ever to appear on the web. the recommendations invariably came from relatives and friends of 'x' 'y' and 'z'.
I recommended Liza's stuff simply to show these pretenders how far they fell below Liza's writing.
There was no feedback apart from TC saying how nice it was to remember the original contributors to the site.
The strange thing is - one year on - that Liza's original set is still on the site - untouched. No additions. No deletions. no forum contributions.
So, who is the elusive L. Granville?
Why is she writer of the week 12 months after submitting her last item?
Was Granville a pseudonym?
Is she still amongst us now?
or has she just recently left for a world wide trek?
any conspiracy theories?
ps
there was no interview either.
pps
anyone connected to LG has mysteriously disappeared from the site.
send any theories to:
the umbrella man
third rifle
brook de suppository
sallad
no1 h1ll
ppps
some one has stolen 2 consonants from my first post.
another conspiracy in the making.
I, too, joined after seeing (and hearing) JB haul himself out of that black cab.
There were only a few pieces in those long-forgotton days, so Liza was relatively easy to find. I thought her writing was absolutely brilliant, and sent her an email telling her so.
We exchanged mails for about 2 or 3 weeks and she was also kind enough to send me 4 copies of the ABC mag through the post, 'cos I couldn't get it here.
After that - nothing. Not a sausage. Think I've still got her address somewhere in the innards of me pc.
Maybe I should take up contact again - feel a lot of people (including me) could learn a helluva lot from her writing...
there IS something by LGranville on the site thats new.. i accessed it through the last 10, many moons ago when i could still READ the last ten.. (well last week then, ok i am exaggerating)
and as per fays request, the picture that inspired *tilt of your head* is now displayed with the poem, but not on abc, as it has been removed from the site, as per request.
http://www.liana.org.uk/tilt.htm
if anyones interested
Your poem's been removed on request Liana?
Why? Or did I get that totally wrong?
the subject of the poem requested that i remove it vicky... nothing sinister at abctales :o)
yes, liza started a new set a few days after her absence was noted above.
like you liana, I haven't read much recently either due to the tech probs.
