Zen and the War on Terror

'There is no "good cause" for torture. As a torturer, you are the first to be a victim because you lose all your humanity.'

'When we hold retreats for war veterans I tell them they are the flame at the tip of the candle, they are the ones who feel the heat, but the whole candle is burning, not only the flame. All of us are responsible.'

Hey. Thought you guys might be interested in a few articles by people a lot smarter than I'll probably ever be. I know I occasionally bang on about being Buddhist whilst not doing a particularly convincing impersonation of one, but please don't let that get in the way of the sound philosophy and good, old fashioned humanity that underpins most of Zen Buddhism.
I'm not trying to fly in the face of anyone else's views here. They come from a spiritual, rather than political perspective. I know some of you won't agree with the sentiments of the articles. I hope you find these different perspectives fascinating, if nothing else.
