The owner of the wooden hand

I read this yesterday, and have been thinking about in on and off since then... incredibly well packed, rich and clever poem.

I googled for the exercise that Elsie mentions and can only find a couple of dead Guardian links - does anyone know it? The Frankenstein's pocket watch exercise?
