Dylan

I only caught about a third of last night documentry. I'm all set for tonight though.

Did anyone tape it )DVD)?

If so can I have a copy.

George. You must have (unless you saw it ages ago).

Pleeeease....

I recorded it on DVD. No one has seen this before Ralph, because it's a brand new programme and BRILLIANT as well. I could make you a copy, but in fact the entire 2 part programme (Pt 2 is broadcast at 9pm tonight) is due for an official DVD release next Monday. What's more it includes a wealth of extra material not being shown on TV (or so I'm told) There's several other Dylan programmes this week with a concert from the Barbican on Friday night, which includes my long time friend Martin Carthy (whom Dylan stayed with on his first visit to London in 1963). The actual Barbican concert was last week I think.

Tomorrow nights feast (Wednesday 28th) is unmissable to anyone that's interested in Dylan mythology, (Liana can spend the evening playing her Motown records). All on BBC 4; 10pm. 'Dylan In The Madhouse', documents Dylan's first visit to London to appear in a 1963 BBC play, 'Madhouse On Castle Street'. I well remember seeing it at a friends house. The tape was wiped by the Beeb for some reason five years later and a song he performed for the only time was thought lost forever ('Swan On The River'). Amazingly it has surfaced, recorded by a guy in Esher who placed his tape recorder in front of his TV and recorded the soundtrack. I heard it for the first time in 42 years yesterday morning, when they played it on Radio 4 10.50pm. 'Don't Look Back'; D.A.Pennebakers famous film of Dylan's 1965 British tour. 00.25am (Thursday) 'Dylan's Legends'; Real people who inspired Dylan, will include Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams no doubt. Thursday 29th; 11.45. BBC4; Arena, 'Tales Of Rock'n'Roll - Highway 61 Revisited', includes film of Hibbing, Minnesota, Dylan's childhood hometown. Friday 30th; BBC4; 8.30pm. 'Talking Bob Dylan Blues; A Tribute Concert' (the concert I mentioned above) Not Dylan but tenuously related (same director as 'No Direction Home'), and an absolute gem of a series being repeated; Friday 30th, BBC2, 11.35pm; 'Feel Like Going Home', Martin Scorcese Presents The Blues. A seven part series originally broadcast last year I think. I saw a couple of episodes and they were stunning.
