'Actual Harm' by wolfgirl
Read this today and really, really liked it. There's a lot of interesting issues at play here, along with a style which is crafted but not over mannered. As I said to wolfgirl via email, there are a few things that would make it an even stronger story than it already is, but it's pretty damn fine as it is.

I thought the ending was absolutely brilliant. It's a portrait of a guy who can't see beyond his own prejudices. But what's really good about it is that he isn't presented as a monster - his concern for the "battered wife" is quite admirable. He's just trapped inside the smallness of his own mind. Even sean nelson should be able to find something to think about in this one.

A very fine piece. Brilliant portrait of a repressed man. Keeps your attention all the way through and has a couple of good twists.
