BBC Censorship?

There is no doubt that various media are censored, but you will find that it's invariably the work of individuals rather than a sinister plot. I work for a daily newspaper where I write and edit stories. Part of my job is to select suitable pictures for those stories too. If you had ever been in a newspaper office, you would be aware that stories and particularly pictures which come over the wire from around the world via companies such as Associated Press, Newspress, Reuters et al are often of a very graphic nature. These are the pictures you will never see in the paper. But it is generally not because of some conspiracy, it's because they are truly horrific and would be considered gratuitous were they to be used. Trust me, there are some things you really don't want to see.

No mention of Iraq at all on BBC or Channel Five today - nor any more news on the Texas BP oil refinery fire. I think Bush has too much money and power backing him for anyone else to stand a chance. Maybe it was just too gratuitous to show at 6pm while folks are eating their dinner and children are/could be watching. Do we really need to see grisly footage anyway? What purpose does it serve?

Maybe that IS all it was, Jeff, but there was something in the way she said it that made me wonder if it was something more politically related like the real amount of anti-American resentment.

I'm hoping that Tony might have some inside information regarding any changes in what the BBC are allowed to show and to imply (hint).

btw george, it occurred to me a while ago that not all the server posts are by mykle. some end with a ;o) and some with a :) I thought the :) posts could be by his very quiet email mate (and former adversary of yours) Then I thought, no don't be silly, no one is that sad, surely?
