Monologues
Anyone have any bright and original ideas on ways to write a monologue that do not simply begin,
' I never knew that day that my life was going to change'
Or any great monolgues that they have ever read and thought, why yes the monologue is great.
Mer.
I have to write one. Thought I would try and pick your kind brains.

I think Jason Robards' monologue in Magnolia is a pretty exceptional example. It's the classic deathbed speech, but he's drugged up on morphine so he's not very lucid. I thought it was amazing.
Hello Span,
how's the toon?
I'd suggest checking out Ali Smith's short stories, which often take the form of monologues.
They're great and I'm now in love with her, IDST SWALK.
For example 'God's Gift' from Other Stories and Other Stories begins:
"There are so many things that you don't know about me now. For instance. Some neighbouring cat has been bringing me birds, dead or dying, for several days."
I suppose the thing with monologues to think why the person is talking, and what story they're trying not to tell by telling the one they've chosen to tell.
Cheers,
Mark
I will try and internet seek it.
Still have not seen Magnolia to my shame.
You recommend Rokkit?
Bah, I have to make a documentary film about myself. How boring.
Have to write a monologue. It is making me gag. Helllop.
