The Day my Mom got Phished by Grendel Guy

I liked this. It has the same kind of flat tone as American junkie memoirs. I like all the back in the day stuff, and the mythology of names (AOL, warez etc) works well.

Good stuff.

Cheers,

Mark

http://www.abctales.com/story/grendelguy/day-my-mom-got-phished Thought I'd repost the URL, as Mark got carried away with his Ws. I thought this was very good. I've tried a similar sort of thing, but grendelguy has demonstrated to me that I just don't know enough about the subject matter - whereas he does. There is a lot of technical information in this piece, and I feel it's handled really well - I never felt I was being blinded by the science. The narrator starts off explaining what he does and how he does it - then (and only then) when that's straight, does he attempt to get on with the story. I like, I think, the repetition of "The day my mom got phished" - it kind of draws the reader onwards, wanting to get to the punchline. However, I wonder if it would have worked better if it had been a surprise: the narrator's invincible exterior could be a foil to the shock ending. The trouble is, if you change that then you'd have to change a bloody good title! Well done grendelguy.
