"I'm at the Start of a Pretty Big Downer"

Those crazy zeitgeist mavens have coined a curious word; ‘Summerween’.  I enjoy the occasional newordish moment myself; so long as it adheres to the rules of language and the meaning is understood. But enough of gramatirritations.

‘Summerween’ originally meant [weirdos] celebrating Hallowe’en in summer.  Now, it signifies that darker green, breezy time of year when, fed up with high summer, you long for clocks falling back, dark nights, snuggling up with a cosy cup of something milky, possibly pumpkin-related and binge-watching ‘Gilmore Girls’.  (Crazy zeitgeist mavens know there is no ‘The’ in ‘Gilmore Girls’).

Have been in a ‘Summerween’ frame of mind for weeks.  The daily tribulation of no biscuits is, surprisingly, not to blame.  What is wholly to blame is this year of the Fire Horse ravaging through woodlands, homes, forests, glens.  Earthquakes, floods, killer mudslides and typhoons.  Drone bombings hither and yon.  Vitriolic virtual pile-ons, multiple tragic, needless deaths, potuses renaming lakes.  FFS. 

To top it all, Dolly Parton and the sexiest Frank-N-Furter ever, Tim Curry, gone. 

The day glam died.

Took the pain but instead of turning it into art, turned it into autumn cleaning; same as spring cleaning only it makes you feel better as creates a sort of Christmassy mood.  Also initiates those specifically autumnal states of possibility and preparation; the scent when sharpening new pencils.  Kitchen rugs, bathroom rugs, shook, washed, dried in the warm air of the Indian summer of the past few days.  (Is it allowed to say ‘Indian summer’ or have the wokerati realised there are bigger issues to get all het up about yet?)  Rejigged some kitchen furniture – well swapped places of two basket chairs, but it was enough to give not unpleasant feelings of unfamiliarity, and maybe make some new synaptic connections of a morning.
