Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

It's been a wonderful week on the site for life writing and I struggled to choose the Picks for this week.

Among others, Jolono's beautiful 'Dad was Old School' ( and Elsie Katz's uncompromising 'Memories of Working In A Hostel...' ( will stay in my mind for a long time.

In the end though, Story of the Week goes to Parson Thru's 'You, Me and Woody Guthrie'.  It's wise, beautifully written, and unsentimentally optimistic:

Poem of the Week is another memoir - Philip Sidney's 'Southend 1976', with imagery so strong you can feel the sunburn and taste the sea:

Please do read all of them, if you haven't already.  They are all wonderful pieces of work.

Thanks to Jolono too for providing the inspiration for this week's Inspiration Point:
