Doing Days

You never know what will motivate you in this life, quite often it’s vengeance and murderous rage. This was the case when I came downstairs from my sick bed to find sleekit (a mouse of ill-repute) had shit on my velvet sofa. Well, on the Ikean rug charmingly draped over velvet sofa. Hoovered the top of both rug and sofa in stupefied disgust, lifted off all the cushions and rugs, including the main seat cushions, and saw in the seams of the sofa base, two decimated hazelnuts, one acorn and one conker. Sleekit had raided my Angie Lewin-like display jug of feathers, nuts and alder cones collected in autumns past. I’ll not lie; I burst into tears. Probably a mix of post-viral fatigue, and grief I don’t have a butler to deal with this sort of thing. The tears didn’t last long, as thankfully, feelings of murderous vengeance overtook. Sofa was hoovered and scrubbed within an inch of its velvet pile and now looks super-spick and span, although I can’t quite bring myself to use the rug anymore and had to throw out the two microfibre cloths used for scrubbing. Top tip for cleaning velvet upholstery; snip open a washing tab, one of those three in one thingies, into a small bowl. Half fill with warm water, not hot. Dunk a microfibre cloth in and wring it out until almost dry. Proceed to scrub until murderous thoughts have subsided, or your arm aches, whichever happens first.
Following this, cleared the weeds from the front door, which took all of ten minutes. Seems a shame when they took the trouble to grow. Also trimmed the hedge. Changed the bed linen while I was at it as couldn't get the feeling of sleekit invasion out of my head.
Am buying poison today.
