Poetry

SECOND OPINION, by Tony Thorne - Poet's Yearbook Publications.
Rhyme-less, unpredictable but enchanting poetry

From the first lines I felt an immediate affinity with the writer . . . understood his message . . . admired his effrontery ... winced at his cynicism . . . roared at his humour. . . marvelled at his perception.

Tony Thorne's unobtrusive manipulation of words is a delight. His lines flow and his reader is carried along on them. On the back cover of Second Opinion we read:

'In Tony Thorne's poetry we hear the true voice of our predominantly urban and technological society. While other poets are intent on escaping from present day reality into private worlds, Tony Thorne is confronting and challenging the things which affect all our lives. His intense awareness of things as they are often produces sound social comment - sometimes cynical, sometimes comic – but his sensitivity to the power of everyday language is not less than his sensitivity to the world to which it belongs.

Anyone reading these poems solely for their poetry is liable to get more than they bargain for.’

Amen to that!
