SANCTUARY 1
By Kristopher
The first five pomes I have ever wrtten:
The spider spun inspiration

Can words describe how I feel?
Do words have the power to heal?
With this enigma in mind
I find myself peering
Deep into the composition
Of a spider's woven silky web
A wholly intricate design
I realize this is a sign
The arachnid has spun
Its lavishly proficient symbol
The perfect metaphor
The web of words available
To tap into and utilize
For personal self expression
Like the spider
I too can spin my own lines
Revolve thoughts into words
Giving birth to my glistening web
Upon this sudden revelation
I pick up pen and paper
Open heart and mind
And allow my spirit to speak
Words can describe how I feel
And they do have the power to heal
The sky is free
_____________
The sky is free.
It's essence calls to me
On a warm sunny day.
When the wind starts to blow
I already know
I will soar.
A storm approaches during day.
Still I do not delay
In a yearning to be one with the wind.
I take a deep breath
And in flows life
What a natural high.
Body is on the ground
But mind and spirit are in the sky.
Onward the wind will blow.
And when it's time to die
My spirit will remain eternal
in the sky.
What will that be like?
A priceless experience

Don't take what you have for granted
I found myself sitting in a park
one evening about dark
As my thoughts began to wander
Over the dad I never had
When I heard a father raise a vioce to his son
My thoughts suddenly went asunder
The little boy frowned
As these words I found
Little boy if only you knew
I would give up a year
Just to hear
My father yell
Don't take what you have for granted
So Don't be sad
Go to bed tonight glad
Sleep warm and know
There is safety all around
Wake up tomorrow grateful
Look at your father and smile
And know that nothing
Can compare to or measure to him
Don't take what you have for granted
For you he would lay down his life
Don't be naive and wander why
And when you are grown
Sitting in a park one day like me
Look back on what forever you'll own
A priceless experience
Oh little boy
How I long to tell you these things
Don't take what you have for granted
Kneel to your conscience
______________________
Tonight your conscience comes calling
Last November comes knocking
(Pause)
It's just turned two
All alone in bed except your conscience and you
Time to deal with the shame
You have no one to blame
Because at night
The mind takes flight
No place to hide
Nowhere to run
(pause)
Time to dwell on the selfish needs
That makes you do those dirty deeds
To all that have been taunted
It's time to be haunted
Nobody thinks you'll ever pay
For all the nasty things you say
Never caring about the lives in need of repair
After the damage you've done
But what's hidden from others
Now comes to light
The silence around you is deafening
The darkness is piercing
(Pause)
At night
Your mind takes flight
No time to heal
To the conscience it's time to kneel
So now you'll remember
What you did last November
(Pause)
No escape from yourself
As you pray for daylight
Find your sanctuay

An artist will paint his picture
A dancer does the dance
The actor plays the role
And I have discovered the power of the word
This is our sanctuary
The sky turns dark
Seasons will change
The weather can be cold
But here it is warm
Humans grow old
Buildings may collapse
Old problems come back to relapse
Children are born
Stars are created
Some people are hated
In my possession is the authority of the word
The power to be heard
This happens in the sanctuary
Here what is blocked
Can become unlocked
There will always be questions
Perhaps not enough answers
But that's okay
An artist will paint his picture
A dancer does the dance
The actor plays the role
I write words
We are in our sanctuary
The special place
To utilize our creative space
Look inside yourself and reach out
Find the sanctuary that awaits
Everybody has one
