The thing I like most about the Olympics is seeing countries at the opening ceremony that I've never heard of. The Federated States of Micronesia springs immediately to mind. Marvellous.

The smell of steroids and Nandrolone in the athletics and field arenas is just about as good as the smell of naplam before breakfast. I'm with George, liana and Andrew on this one. Money, hype and drugs make a spectacle somewhere on a par with Big Brother. Yours curmudgeonly, Victor Meldrew. P.S. After a long break from the threads, and don't worry - I won't be here long - my heartfelt love and felicitations go out to the two squelchers, liana and Andrew. I'm gobsmacked, me.

I love the Olympics - I like most sports, and many of them rarely get shown apart from at the Olympics. The opening ceremony was very impressive, and now we've got the delights of multiscreen viewing!! Right now there is rowing, badminton, hockey and beach volleyball on... Gotta love the beach volleyball... hey, sod this it's a mens match.... get the Brazilian ladies out there!!!!

It said in the paper this morning that the opening ceremony was watched by 4.4billion people! Who the hell do they think they are kidding? That's equal to 2 thirds of the planets population. Bollocks!

What was the coloured globe thing meant to be? Was it a globe? What on earth was it? All those different groups of folks in different coloured clothes? It was baffling.

and another thing has anyone else noticed how mean sue barker is, towards colin jackson, the chirpy welshj olympic silver medalist she keeps harping on about gold medals with her new chums, michael johnson (olympic champion) and jonathan edwards (olympic champion) sometimes sally gunnel (olympic champion) will chip in, they've also had steve ovett and sebastion coe also giving their views and the chirpy welsh silver medalist? left looking like a t**t, and unable to say a thing serves him right i guess for not winning one

Ends on Sunday...for some reason the male Irish presenter is getting on my nerves taking the piss out of his fellow commentators all the time. Hazel Irving is annoying also with her robotic delivery and constant chirpyness.

Clare Balding has taken a lot of stick on this programme AND IT'S NOT ON. she was slagged off for wearing a green blouse the other day and than she had to read out an e-mail from some bitch who wrote in just to say that Clare Baldng was getting on her nerves! I think she's an excellent sports presenter and she's also sexy in a mannish kind of deep voiced, biggles' haircut, looks a bit like Eddie Izzard kind of way. some men are afraid of her because she's a horsy woman who could easily kill any man in bed if she was in the mood and looks built for cross country. Well more fool them, bring her on, I say. she does a great job.

Well if we're going off on one. Steve Cram (sp?) interviewing Paula Radcliffe and deliberately trying to make her cry and then not giving her a hug was one of the most painful things I've ever watched.

Missi - they do this sort of thing all the time - they show the Olympics in Britain, therefore that's 56 million people who are watching it. Then they just add it all up. Like when they claim sick days cost the economy x billion per year. Don't talk bloody wet. As anyone who works will tell you, if someone is off sick, the work either gets done by others picking up the slack or it waits till they get back - it doesn't cost anything like what is claimed.

I thought Stevie was out of order too. And this sly pressure to make her run the 10.000 is also well out of order. Claire Balding is gay isn't she? but without a doubt one of best presenters BBC have. Also quite fond of Jill Douglas's accent.

I think we should have an ABC Olympics. I'm going for gold in the 5 metre sprint-from-the-sofa-to-the-kitchen-at-half-time-for-a-cuppa. Liana and Andrew in the mixed doubles? Tony or Karl for the Duncan Goodhew impersonation? Fish has been thrown out after testing positive for drop scones. [%sig%]

Yeah, and actually, in my opinion, when people take 'sickies' their productivity actually goes up because they have a nice day's rest watching TV eating Haagen Daaz and Kettle Chips and go back feeling rather pleased with themselves.

At the risk of getting two slaps from Wainfleet - firstly, she is right, women from the Eastern bloc are (in my admittedly limited experience) very attractive and far more fashionable than most Brits, and secondly, I've watched loads of Olympics this week. It was that bloody three day eventing that hooked me - the fact that we got a medal because the French bloke had a disaster and then got a better medal because the German was disqualified... Mind you, I was watching a History Channel Documentary on Henry V last night and was punching the air and shouting "Come on, you French tossers, let's have it" during the Agincourt sequences. I think I might be having a testosterone surfeit at the moment (which may also surprise the Wainfleet girl) Has anyone seen the biffa that Rooney paid £45 quid to have sex with? Apparently he waited for his change too. Tight arse. (forgive the horrible mental image that conjures up) Always thought Divine Brown was the ugliest hooker alive, but us Brits manage to come out smiling again.

The women in the olympics are fantastic looking this year - Kelly Sutherland is a stunner. We sure have come a long way since Fatima Whitbread. But the russian gymnasts upset me - they are so painfully thin it's like watching abuse set to music. Kelly Holmes face when she crossed the finish line on Monday - that was the highlight of the games in this house.

I adore all sport - but even I don't bother much with the Olympics. Whoever has the best drugs wins. It's just a farce. I don't trust the athletics, swimming, cycling, rowing, weightlifting, boxing, wrestling or gymnastics to name but a few - what does that leave? I'm not too keen on the nationalistic stuff either - although I'll go crazy if we smash the Yanks in the Ryder Cup - but that's in part because we are a European team and in part because I loathe American golfers with their barbie doll stepford wives and mashed-up white god. I love it when England win at football or cricket or rugby - but that's because it's a fair contest and you know that sooner or later those that you beat will beat you back. The Olympics are a mess and the poor old Greeks are about to pick up a very large bill for them.

The wainfleet girl would like to point out that the lincoln lawyer will be lucky if he gets so much as a slap from me this weekend, and furthermore, if he thinks that there will be ANY of the Borelympics on in this house, he is deeply deeply mistaken.
