what a brilliant result, kelly holmes winning the 800m, ran a fantastic race
and poor poor paula radcliffe, just losing it in the marathon, dropping out after 22 miles, she just didn't have it in her that day...i'm hoping she regroups and runs and wins the 10000
hrmmm wonder what happened to her... i havent seen the interview as i am rabidly avoiding all things olympic. I know i am appalled by all this talk of her being a heroine etc... she is not a heroine she is a highly paid athlete.
The woman (jane something?) who is doing all the marathons to raise money whilst she is dying of cancer... she is a heroine.
A herione - don't get me started. Oh yeah, right, so she does what she likes for hours and hours a day and smothers herself in emu oil to get her muscles glossy (!) and, well, you know. Heroine. Brave???? Pull the blinking other one tabloid people.
Apparently it was because it was hot.
i don't think i called her a heroine, of course she isn't, she's a great runner, who had a bad race, that's all....
and kelly holmes is a great runner who had a brilliant race
do you think these boys use performance enhancing drugs?
it's disgraceful if they do, it should be a drug free sport
for the participants that is
whoever they are...like
I would imagine these boys do take prodigious amounts of powerful performance enhancing drugs.
To tackle the highly dangerous sport of Liana baiting without them would be madness.
So at the same time i pity and admire these boys.
Whoever they maybe...
I used to like it as kid. I have not had a television for 7 months now and haven't watched a single bit of television since then *i won't be buying one for the olympics either* incase i get sucked in to watching all the other 'naff'
Sick days - that rather depends on how you look at it. Sure, companies will get the work done that has to be, the customers may not notice, and it may not (immediately) impact the income. But there are other costs associated with it. The statements are probably over-estimated though.
It's a bit like the statements over piracy. Yes, there are total freeloaders, yes there are those that unwittingly buy counterfiet goods. But typically, people have an amount that they spend on music, games, movies - and whether they pirate or not, that amount won't change a great deal. Piracy does cost the industry, but nowhere near the amounts that get quoted - it probably has more of an effect to redistribute income through the industry.
well there will be some golds coming our way, we'll probably take some in the horsey stuff, paula radcliffe should grab one....there's the rowers, they are in with a shout, the sailing, they usually do well, then steve backley, maybe it's his time for a gold in the javelin, maybe denise lewis in the hepthlon,, and dean whatshisface in the decathlon...
we've got some great sprinters in lewis-francis, campbell and gardiner....
we're not that rubbish flash...
we've never won the Handball gold or the water polo gold...i dont so anyway.
We had a good olympics in sydney...but still came behind Germany,Italy and France in the medals table.
And why haven't we got a footie team there?
I irrationally love watching the olympics - especially the athletics (4 by 4 relay is always a classic) as are all the throwing events, then all the casual events that I've never thought about that turn up in the early hours of the morning. And I like the swimming.
It's exciting it is. Daft but exciting.
But the worst bit is I don't have a place with a TV at the moment so will have to stick to watching it on big screens in pubs which isn't quite the same as sitting in your favourite armchair with snacks and beer and cheering and shouting at the screen (in wonderful contrast to all those fit people slowly consuming enough calories to last me the next year).
Wouldn't have been so bad if they'd made washing-up and ironing Olympic events though I spose.
*diguises self as Flashy and parades in full view of the suffragettes*
'Dunno why they re-admitted women back in 1928 anyway.'
Er....Was it to give ugly women a chance to be good at something?......I'm thinking more of the Eastern bloc actually.
*hides under desk*
Youve obviously never been to the eastern bloc flashy... it would make me much happier if they all looked like geoff capes instead of eva herzigovina believe me.
we don't have a football team as the footballing nations of great britain won't send a great britian team - i think it's somethign to do with the fact that if they did enter as great britan, it would weaken the argument for having an english, scottish, welsh and northern irish national sides
I love the Olympics, especially the bike racing. Sod it, my heroine, Nicole Cook, didn't get a medal. I've got to try to make sure it doesn't interfere with me writing, so the late night highlights for me from now on.
I agree about the track sprinters, though - the biggest lot of wankers around.
I saw the bit where someone was running round the track, breaking lengths of loo roll as some voice intoned the dates of all the olympics.
Very impressive... must've cost a fortune that.
it's all over
have to wait for 4 more tears before bejing
it was great though
9 gold medals, 30 in all, they did fine in the end
kelly holmes, double olympic champion
the 4x100 boys winning the relay
which went to disprove an aussie comentator who claimed
"that the poms only won golds when they were sitting on their arses"
which was harsh but true up until the night kelly romped home with the 800
we had until then won golds in equestrian, sailing, cycling, and rowing...
And don't forget Paula Radcliffe, sulky, bad loser, waste of space...
Hurrah, it's over.
(mart, is that really you? you remind me of someone else there...)
Oh lord. Thank heavens the football is back. There's nothing worse than the Olympics being the only sport on offer. I loathe it with a passion. All I want to see this year is cheating Yanks going home on a plane after failing drug tests, possibly crying and thanking God for their families and their talent. That and seeing Carl Lewis set upon by starving jackals, but that is probably too much to ask.
Haven't been able to watch any athletics since twin trauma of Ben Johnson being stripped of his gold for cheating in a race every other competitor was cheating in and Heike Dreschler retireing.
sorry.. before I get leapt on, i meant hurrah because i loathe the olympics too... nothing worse than being forced to watch it with someone who is passionate about it.
