Thursday Evenings at Calder Bookshop

Just about every Thursday evening, John Calder hosts a reading or "evening with" event at his book shop near the Waterloo station. You can get more information from the web site and sign up for their email mailing list.
I went last night, my maiden voyage, and it was quite enjoyable. The featured guest was Al Alvarez, a poet, novelist, biographer of Sylvia Plath, expert mountain climber and poker player. I'm not familiar with his writing, other than the things he read last night, but he's an interesting character in person and the experience was worthwhile.
Calder is getting on in years at this point, but he has been involved with publishing some famous and controversial figures, such as Burroughs, Selby, etc. He is also the English-language publisher of a number of French authors not available elsewhere in the UK (not readily at least), such as Robbe-Grillet. His little book shop is a fun place to visit.
Anyway, I thought I would mention in case someone is interested.
Oh yes, last night a woman in the audience launched into a fantastic tirade about how her magnificent screenplay about Plath was rejected by some movie producer and how Ted Hughes was an idiot, blah blah.....I can imagine this woman has few friends...if you get my drift.
