I had no sleep and I must dream...

I got to sleep about 4.15 am and got up to feed our son at 7.15am. Three hours. I have no recollection of dreaming about anything. So --- how important is it to you to dream at night? Does dreaming help resolve conflicts in real life?

I dreamt I was on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Outta Here! last night... and I stroked a friendly snake... sometimes I worry about me... :-) * P * :-) ( Blog! - www.oddcourgette.blogspot.com )

I wonder what would Freud say about that one?
Freud? She needs to speak to her dad. I could give you tons of tips for increasing rem and recall, but I can't be arsed. If you're not too fussed about your intake of msg then I'd recommend downing some msg rich foods - mushrooms, tomatoes, chinese foods for good dreaming/recall. If you want a lucid dream, check out my induction below :) Hear my music: http://music.download.com/3600-5-100795586.html

Dennett

Everyone dreams whether they remember or not it is either stage 2 or 3 (can’t remember which) of 4. Physiological psychologists would argue that dreaming is merely random firing of electricity when we are in REM sleep and it is our cognition (thinking brain) that interprets these random firings in a meaningful way. A bit like when you peer into a dark room and for a moment think you see a dog, or a monster before realising it is a pile of clothes. It was only in the 1960’s that psychologist finally established the link between REM and dreaming. In studies where people are intentionally sleep deprived REM sleep increases considerably (rebound), when that person finally sleeps. Leading psychologists to propose that REM is essential for health (physical and/or mental) not sure. Freud would say our dreams are a way in to our unconscious desires, but the best way is to keep your own sleep diary and look for patterns or recurring themes. You may find certain dreams return when you are under stress. I know this sounds a bit spotterish – but I teach it at A-level. Juliet
