I think that everyone is just over analyzing it. I'll tell you why. At least some of you, remember me from at least one other forum. You know that I am a devout Christian. The kind you probably like to hate - fundamentalist type. So I look at things the way that I understand God looks at it, according to his Holy Scriptures, and according to God (the Judeo Christian God - the only true God, I believe), he looks at it this way. There are those who believe in Him, and there are those who don't. That's it.
So for me - I don't care if you're atheist - strong or weak, agnostic or what ever. I believe in the sight of God - it only matters that you do or don't believe in Him, first. Of course then comes the accepting part, but that is for another forum.
That's my two cents - not that anyone asked or even cares really. LOL

I'm not an atheist particularly, though I also find it incredulous that intelligent people can be deeply christian. Three of the doctors at the practice I work at (one a consultant surgeon) are all deeply religious, and it really does amaze me. I am more ready to accept a generally spiritual stance, as I am also open to the belief that 'this' is not all there is. Generally, I tend towards the fact that it is though. I'd LOVE to feel otherwise... I can only imagine the freedom and comfort it gives.

I think that if one continues to "think" on it and doesn't really bother to read the Bible or really look in to it, they will flutter and weave about and never really come to a personal decision whether Christianity is a true or not. You say "incredulous". Why does it seem so unlikely that intelligent people can be Christians? These doctors you mentioned are just educated in the facts. They have studied the Bible. You haven’t. So why is it so supprising that they can be so smart and at the same time be believers? They just know something that you don’t, that’s all.
"Why does it seem so unlikely that intelligent people can be Christians?"
Come on. We've been over this a billion times. Same reason it seems unlikely that intelligent people would believe in faeries or worldwide Jewish conspiracies or flying pigs - there is absolutely no cogent logic or reason that supports or even suggests such a belief.
I like to think... I enjoy it.
But I agree that one can over-think.
My beliefs are ultimately based on what I feel rather than what I can analyse.
