ABC Talers at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club

Weds 26th August, 7.30 pm, Bethnal Green Working Men's Club, £3.

Early last year, five members of performance poetry collective Aisle16 were sitting in a pub when someone posed the question: where’s the worst place you can imagine doing a gig? After bandying around various options, they realized they all had the same answer – the towns they grew up in. Shocked at the fear and loathing they had developed for their hometowns after a decade of blissful separation, they decided to confront their prejudices and head back to the stomping grounds of their childhoods, performing poetry for the first time in the places they grew up. People say you’re only ever five bad gigs in a row away from quitting – the Local Boys were about to find out.

Local Boys Done Good will feature live performances alongside clips from the tour itself. The ‘Local Boys’ include familiar names to ABC Tales regulars, Joe Dunthorne (SPACK), Tim Clare (ROKKITNITE) John Osborne (MCMANAMAN), Ross Sutherland and Chris Hicks.

I often liked to recite poetry in Three Colts Lane Bethnal Green .Sung a few swinging numbers in the Good Shepherd Mission with the extra cool St Lucia Pentecosal Choir . Those were the days , under the moonlight by the arches in London E5 .Regards to the East London Born Again Christian Fellowship .
