This piece of writing is worth reading if only to remind people how lucky they are. theses experiences I imagine will stay with the author throughout his life hopefully enabling him to understand how easily it could be them in a crap situation.

Harrowing and heartbreaking to read. It always amazes me how resourceful and resilient human beings are.
I really enjoyed the read - short punchy sentences and an unsentimental approach. This piece isn't asking for sympathy. It is well woven with flashbacks charting their life but returning to the beginning and thankfully ending with hope. What a great relationship they have. Alma and Rick were well characterised i could really see them. I t reminded me a little of Frank McCourt Angela's Ashes. Really good, ty. Juliet

thanks everyone who replied to this, and thanks for the flag nobody. This story, was hard for me to write. Mainly because it is all of my life. If no one has noticed, I documented this story acording to events when I was 12 and 14. Everything is true, nothing has been changed. I don't know why I decided to write this piece. I'm sharing one of my darkest parts of my life with you all. However, I'm fine with that. Thanks everyone.

Give me the beat boys and free my soul! I wanna getta lost in ya rock n' roll and drift away. Drift away...

Mike, you will go far. Just keep doing what you are doing. That was an amazing tale (I realize it's your experiences) and I imagine a healthy way to purge. All the best, Lisa
Mike, nothing makes a better story than real life, especially if you can capture it with insight and sensitivity, as you have done. Painful to read, but very good reading, nonetheless...
