Sometimes I feel like drinking a beer. Sometimes I feel like drinking a scotch.
I never once considered it weird.
Try reading some poetry - some of it aint half bad.
Because a well written story flows, and it's easy to become caught in the plot.
A good poem needs to be savoured, read slowly, and then re-read. Several times if needs be.
Upshot: poems can be hard work, but you can get more from them.

I find that poems can be a bit hard to take sometimes. Personally, I am a fan of poetry, but many people don't like them because the can seem too philosophical at times. Hey, whatever floats your boat...

I write and read for pleasure. I don't want it to be hard work.
Expressions like 'layers of metaphore' put me off as well.
