Good News!

Right.. too much drear and doom going on round here... lets have some good news...what good thing has happened to anyone during the last week?

My car passed its MOT with flying colours today... (well, I say flying colours... my dad spent all morning in a pit at the local garage fixing the drive shaft and exhaust... but ta da... passed.)

Anyone won the lottery?

Talk about ratted... I've just noticed i called him Grinshaw :oO. Atkinson Grimshaw painted some of the best Yorkshire paintings ever - many of which - to my eye - seem to express the sort of vision that LSD or 'magic mushrooms' make fascinating to the enlightened eye. His paintings that are usualy in the Leeds art gallery (but travel around in exhibitions) are a joy to behold and have a mystical, yet ocasionaly paranoid, view of the local landscape that inspire and yet relect his subject. You should look at the 'Old Mill' (I think what it's called) which is wonderfully evocative of that 'special something' that the ordinary eye usually overlooks - but yet manages to inspire a magical feeling)!

My daughter and my grand daughter have just spent a few days with me - my grandaughter is only six weeks old and is georgous but there again I am bias in that ! my good news is - pushing my granddaughter in her pram the other day someone mistook me for her mother and my daughter for her sister ! well my daughter does look like a thirteen year old and no one should be able to get back into a size ten six weeks after having given birth to a seven pound baby ! my bad news is my daughter has still not forgiven me for not correcting the person involved .....

I actually use a low resolution mobile phone camera in my work, to reduce the visual clutter and concentrate on the mood, shapes and colours. If you're interested you can have a look at what I do at http://gallery.duess.com/current_show/showing.html

Just got around to reading this thread Andrew: are you Andreas Duus? Whatever, I'm impressed by the style! I'm afraid I've been consuming my remaining Stella reserves in an enthusiastic changeover to Carlsberg - trouble is, I've started on the Carlsberg now. I knew I should have waited until tomorrow to buy new stocks! Anyway, I liked Mr Duus's stuff and I think it exemplifies the fact that people with talent don't need high tech - just talent! As a fellow Cancerian I think you might like some of my photos and I’ll send you 2 or 3 (so as not to clutter up your email) if you don’t mind. I would REALLY like your opinion on these as I admire your taste (except on rhyming poetry ;o) but I won’t send them (they are small JPegs) unless you agree. A lot of friends have said some of my photos are wonderful - but you can’t trust friends to give an honest criticism and I know you will. I know that it’s outside your remit but I would be really grateful as to style and content.

Oh, yes, thanks, Em! Yes, I thought it was Andrew Pack! I still can't give up the larger quite yet - but it becomes increasingly obvious that I should! Can't say I'm pleased with myself but I'll soldier on in the hope that it will sort itself out. Karl has offered an interesting solution of a different thread - but I find the idea of moving quite horrendous!

I just received my tickets for Mexico, 5 nights worth and also picked up a new digital camera. Hope I don't break the camera playing with it before I leave.

A bit late but my good news is: I got a letter yesterday morning to tell me I've been promoted into the National Youth Training Choir. Which means in August I have an 8-day course, and the choir is also singing @ the Dewsbury Festival. (8 days of singing is my idea of heaven) Also I'm finally on study leave. I never have to wear school uniform again (so that's pretty good, considering it was kilts and summer-gingham)

The self-proclaimed most bitter man in rock. He's performed by Graham Fellowes of John Shuttleworth infamy. He does a song called "It's my turn to be poorly", which is a Morrissey pastiche.

I'm taking a load of kids to the cinema on Saturday, as my son was 9 today. I celebrate the fact that he appreciated all his presents, and is still sweet and innocent.

Congratulations to all above. My little boy went for trials for the Basketball Academy on Saturday and was accepted for the under-11's. He's only seven, so it's going to be a hard slog but this is a big step up the ladder of something he loves to do. To put this into perspective, the under-15's from the Academy have nine players playing for the county, which you have to admit is pretty good, but get this ..... they've also got two players in the England squad! They say that to pull an England shirt on that you've earned yourself, and not just bought in a shop, is the best feeling in the world! We've never pushed our son into doing things he's unsure of, but he loves all sports, and this seems like a marvelous opportunity. In just two or three years he could be playing against kids from all over the country.

Jeff - is he going to do Jilted John???? That's one of my favourite songs ever. "Just cos he's better looking than me, but he is a moron / I don't care / it's not fair / yeah, yeah"

oh you are cruel and heartless to pack me for gordon, just cos he's better looking than me, just cos he's cool and trendy, but i know he's a moron, gordon is a moron, gordon is a moron, gordon is a moron.... just from memory, i bought it at the time...classic single, actually for to no .4 i think when the charts were competitive...

No, he keeps all his personas quite separate. Although on this tour he is supporting himself with a fairly new character called Dave Tordoff. He is an expert in laser screeding.... Your guess is as good as mine, although I think it's something to do with tarmaccing (if such spelling exists). I guess Jilted John is kept at home these days, although the royalties probably still come in from time to time.

good news. well..some of the pain that pinioned me to the floor in abject howling misery has receded, now i can dress my own bed sores, apart from that, my next door neighbour has been arrested for stabbing me and he sent me a lovely letter from prison asking for my forgiveness, which i gave him. apart from that i've just discovered that the local council have agreed to let me open a window for the first time in nine years. apart from that, more good news...my dog has learnt a new trick, now it can balance a biscuit on the hideous tumour on it's neck...and apart from that. no more good news. oh yeah, i think i've sorted out the problems with this keyb

My other half's exhibition is going really well - get on down on Sunday to Brighton seafront - we'll be there with free booze for ABCtalers. The Fisherman's Museum Gallery on the underwalk! and on Sunday night we're going to see Nick Cave, kate and Anna McGarriggle, the Handsome Family, Loudon Wainwright's boy and numerous others in concert ... singing Leonard Cohen songs. Oh bliss, oh joy, oh deep glorious gloom. And ABCtales is going to get fixed!

I've been diagnosed with mild bouts of consciousness.. but they tell me it's nothing to worry about. Jude Starring In Sequel to 'My Own Private Idaho' Shocker. Better start practicing that pseudo-Shakespearian banter.. Odd moments are probably the best time TO fall asleep, tho.. makes for a less confusing life. Bastards won't let me paint apartment. But it's a nice sunny Saturday nonetheless.. picture me scrubbing pubic hair off bathroom tiles (Godzilla was a big mutha) while whistling Kinks tunes to myself.. nice. [%sig%]
