British Airways Robbery?

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/08022007/344/ba-charges-240-extra-bag.html

Oh. My. God. Is this even legal, not to tell? I've got flights booked for June, and we were planning on taking the maximum amount of luggage we could. If they slap me with a charge on top of the 1200 pounds for the tickets, I'll scream blue murder.

"According to the Daily Telegraph, BA confirmed that its sales staff were instructed not to tell customers in advance when they booked their tickets." ... Evil!! :-((( pe ps oid ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... (www.pepsoid.wordpress.com)

The All New Pepsoid the Second!

That is appalling - I'm all for increased air taxes but for heaven's sake this is just profiteering. If a large man gets on a plane he weighs three times a small woman - yet he is not penalised. this weight on planes thing is a nonsense set up by the airlines to cash in on customers who can do nothing about it. Change airline immediately.
AG, 12000 pounds is about 6 tons of luggage. It's going to be expensive, no matter how you calculate it. Christ, how many shoes does a woman need to take? Visit me http://www.radiodenver.org/

I wish I *could* change airlines, Tony, but BA will charge me 300 quid to cancel the tickets. That's 300 more than I can put on my already maxed-out credit card. Plus, they have a direct nonstop flight from Heathrow to Phoenix, which, when travelling with six suitcases and two children, is a real plus. They have me just exactly where they want me. However, having gone in a fury to their website, I note that on flights to and from the US I can still have my two bags sans penalty, so I calmed down a little. RD, you KNOW a woman can never have too many pairs of shoes or too many cashmere sweaters. It's a bit like men and their gadgets: how many is too many? Why do you think I need so many suitcases, for the kids' clothing? Feh! Still, it's outrageous, this suitcase thing. What galls me is they don't feel obliged to tell people about the penalty at point of purchase; they wait for folks to visit their website, which IMO is discrimination; not everyone is going to have web access or take it upon themselves to visit a website 'just in case'. Tossers.
Radio, 12000 pounds is the cost of the ticket not the weight of the luggage. Or perhaps I've missed the most arid of jokes?

'..a nonsense set up by the airlines to cash in on customers who can do nothing about it.' that's air travel. There's nothing more mind-teasing than the incomprehensible eagerly avowed - Dennett

I would never fly BA in the first place. It is certainly one of the most hideous airlines in the world. Even the flight attendants are dressed like S&M divas from the 1950s. That should tell you something about what they think of their passengers. "You don't need the light of the Lord to read the handwriting on the wall."
