The Opening Line

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Opening-Line-ebook/dp/B00BW4RSXU/ref=sr_1_1?...

Take a short class from the greatest writers of all time on how to open a story or book

I truly believe that all writers (and some readers for that matter) should read this piece. Not because my writing's so good. It isn't. But because I’m absolutely convinced that The Opening Line of a book or short story (or song or newspaper article or business report or whatever) is possibly the most important line ….. and thus the hardest to write.

So I’ve researched the Opening Lines of almost 200 books, finishing with the classics. Some are pure poetry, drawing the reader in, enticing him to read the next line and to keep turning the page. Others are absolutely terrible and appear to be nothing more than a cop-out.

There are 11,000 words in this piece, and there are plenty of authors who would charge good money for half that many words, but I think they’re ripping the reader off.

So download it to Kindle, Nook or Ipad NOW while it's FREE

What do you have to lose?

And if you live in the States;

Thanks, Jolono, I hope you find it useful.

Jolono, I was going to send you a private mail but can't find your e-mail address. Totally understand if you wish to retain some privacy.

Not at all. Its on my page.

My favourite opening line: "It was the afternoon of my eighty-first birthday, and I was in bed with my catamite when Ali announced that the archbishop had come to see me." -- Earthly Powers, Anthony Burgess. http://www.ukauthors.com
