I think it depends if you like the piece in the first place scratch.I found the opening line incredibly irritating. If your piece had some residual fluff in it, then this is mohair. I'm fluffier than a Shetland sheep in every piece I write, I know, I know, so I'm not lobbing boulders from glass 'arses. But, I found it quite preppy and fussy - after 600 words, I only know that Candy is reluctant to leave a tree behind. I think it is a very fair critique - if slightly sarcastic. Now shoot me down, whilst I hide behind the nearest oak.

No Vera, I agree. The chosen..... ahh I see. My minuscule intellect assumed that you were referring to Tim Clare's provenance. Sorry. I have no idea if the critiqued is a member here. God I'm such a knob sometimes... Anyway, as I was saying.... the chosen author's writing that is on show is irritating, tangential and ultimately confusing. Fair comment in my opinion. But then I couldn't make sense of a perfectly sane thread, so what do I know? 8-D

Knob or not, I think you should find this most recent head shave, in comparison with your own mere trim, a reassurance that the piece you submitted was knob-on.:-)

Tim and Joe are part of a group of writers who have been on here since the very early days of the site. They include John Osborne (mcmanaman), luke wright - who is a mega star these days - and a number of others. They were all at UEA together and have kept writing through thick and thin. They have been a real boon to us and I hope that in return we have been a boon to them!
