Story of the Week, Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point 24 November 2023

As usual our members made this the most difficult task of the week.

Story of the Week

Mark Burrow’s WIP continues to convince with a strong narrative voice. I look forward to seeing it in print one day. The latest instalment is here

I enjoyed Marandina’s short about a family tragedy. This, too, benefits from a strong and believable narrative voice. ‘Those We Leave Behind’ is here

This week’s Story of the Week goes to a tale by one of the most distinctive voices on the site, Sean McNulty for his ‘Once A Husband Almost’. Quirkily humorous, I am always reminded of Myles Na Gopaleen AKA Flann O’Brien’s "Cruiskeen Lawn" columns – and that is high praise indeed.

Poem of the Week

I liked – in no particular order of merit or otherwise.

Turlough’s Treadmills of My Mind

socialeaf’s Commute

Angusfolklore’s Genius Loci

Poem of the Week is hoalarg1’s Winter Trees, which is quite as sparse as the titular trees. So succinct that I believe any of the imagists would have been pleased with it.
Well done everybody, and not just those mentioned.
