Flix

Went to see ‘Practical Magic’ retrospective. Was it really 1998? Yet, I haven’t aged a day. Seeing that kitchen on the big screen again. Gorgeous. Top movie house, ‘Practical Magic’ house. Second, Kate Winslet’s cottage in ‘The Holiday’. Close third, any movie set Nancy Myers creates.
Very excited. (In my defence, ever since the partial eclipse, have just wanted August to end). Fancy seeing several ‘coming attractions’ at the flix this Autumn. ‘Wicker’, a must see, given it’s a fable, and Eric the Viking is in it and all. ‘Tony’, Anthony Bordain’s story of how he got started as a chef. (Can’t believe he killed himself over a heartbreak. Tragic. And he could have had me). Was googling for where Sian Clifford’s film ‘Lady’ was on in Aberdeenshire. AI said, it ‘wasn’t filmed in Aberdeenshire’, that it was ‘shot entirely on location at the historic Somerleyton Hall estate in Suffolk, England. There is no connection to Aberdeenshire in the film’s production’. Is AI neurodivergent? I think so. ‘The Summer Book’, film of the book, already booked. ‘Night & Day’, endured it this week. Preview looked quite funny despite it being a Virginia Woolf story. It’s awful. Not so much a screenplay as a boredom of melodramatic cliches. Inaudible dialogue, dizzying editing, waste of Jennifer Saunders.
‘Practical Magic 2’, where Sandra Bullock (62) and Nicole Kidman (59) obviously use the same face-care routine as myself, as appear not to have aged at all. Wonder how much all that costs. To your mental health. Keeping young and beautiful, hiring slightly less attractive younger actresses to play your daughters. (Witch, witch, I’m a bitch). Don’t hold out much hope for ‘Practical Magic 2’, and not sure the world needs yet another ‘Sense and Sensibility’, especially not one with an Edward Ferrars who winks.
