Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

Posted by Ewan Some wonderful work on the site this week. Everyone should pat themselves on the back. Evocative, memorable and not a word wasted, it’s an affecting read. https://tinyurl.com/PeelParkNYE Many congratulations both. I...

Sad News

Two sad pieces of news for you today. We've lost two very dear members of our community - Denzella and Coolhermit. They will both be greatly missed. I'm afraid I didn't know Denzella well but she was talented, kind and very funny and hugely supportive to other ABCTalers. If you want to look back at her work you can find it here: https://www.abctales.com/user/denzella We have been trying to find a family member to let them know of her body of...

Happy New Year! It feels a bit like tempting fate, but I'm determined to be optimistic.

Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

Selected for us this week by Ewan Story of the Week Congratulations to Celticman, his ‘A Pile Up of Boys’ is a powerful piece of writing, delivered with a narrative voice that is as real as it is vital. Hard to believe such things happened well within living memory. https://www.abctales.com/story/celticman/pile-boys Poem of the Week This week’s choice is something slightly different from Onemorething. Certain Memories is an exploration of how we...

Story and Poem of the Month

Our Story and Poem for the month of November have been picked by london_calling79: As we venture into the unkown depths of a COVID winter we have two heart-warming picks this month to warm your cockles. So cosy up, perhaps in the safety of a virus-proof blanket fort, ignore the inexorable decline of the Western world and enjoy some plain old-fashioned story-telling! For our story pick of the month we present Charlie77’s engrossing opening to...

Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

Posted by airyfairy on Fri, 04 Dec 2020 It's so great, as we celebrate our twentieth birthday, to see that the quality of work on ABC is as brilliant and varied as ever. Story of the Week goes to Peter Bennett's 'A Hauf an a Hauf'. It takes skill and courage to use dialect as your narrative voice, and Peter manages it brilliantly with characters that leap off the page with warmth, humour and pathos: A Hauf an a Hauf | ABCtales No doubt at all in...

Zooms, Donations and Happy Birthdays!

Posted by airyfairy on Fri, 04 Dec 2020 Thank you so much to all the ABC Talers (and friends!) who participated in our Zoom Reading Event last Saturday. It was an absolutely brilliant evening. Special thanks to Mark Burrow for all the organisation and the compering. It will be on our YouTube channel in the New Year, so keep an eye out for it there! Also lots and lots of thanks to those who have sent donations to ABC. If your donation had a name...

Seven Nights at the Flamingo Hotel By Drew Gummerson.

Big congratulations to Drew Gummerson for the publication of Seven Nights at the Flamingo Hotel. Available here: https://www.beardedbadgerpublishing.com/ Review by Mark Burrow Seven Nights at the Flamingo Hotel by Drew Gummerson is a fast-paced, funny and filthy novel. It follows the adventures of the hotel’s hapless dishwasher and his search for love and recognition, which repeatedly ends in varying kinds of humiliation, estrangement and oodles...
