Extracts from The Food Federation
The world of The Food Federation is a world of rising food prices, failing crops and unsustainable livestock. The Food Federation was established in order to ensure each and every citizen received enough food in order to survive.
The Food Federation is based upon a system of work and reward for all. The civilians (peasants) work the land and give what they grow to The Food Federation. In return the peasants receive their rations.
That’s the theory anyway.
Bart Blister is a Food Federationalist. He has a giant barcode etched into one side of his head in accordance with the uniform of The Food Federation.
Bart has grown up on the inside believing he is helping to serve everybody on the outside. Bart cant mix with the peasants because he has been repeated told that the peasants are jealous of his place in The Food Federation and want to harm him.
One day, almost by accident, Bart escapes. He comes face to face with the abject poverty of the people he has always believed he spent his whole live trying to serve.
Over the course of the novel Bart witnesses religious hatred, violence and war.
Bombs drop on the civilian population. Nobody knows who is dropping the bombs but they all know The Food Federation isn’t doing anything to help.
Bart realises the peasants are just people trying and failing to fight against their tyrant dictators. Bart becomes intrinsically involved with the peasants and their struggle.
Bart falls in love with Ruby, the daughter of a freedom fighting badass preacher called Malky Malkovtich.
Eventually, Bart joins Ruby, Malky and his other new found comrades, Inchie Da Vinci and Bubble Berlin. United they attempt to crush The Food Federation and its fascist oppression forever. Are they successful?
