This is what I term 'faction'; in as much as all but the beginning and ending maybe did happen to me, as the story describes; but without the dinner party and the resolution at the end. So, I'll leave it the reader to make of it what they may choose - an entertainment, or maybe a true experience of the supernatural - who knows?

As an admirer of M R James I thought I'd try a tale in the same mode - the unacanny and fatal, found in the everyday - for the unwitting victim!
